Hi,

I got a phone call today from a friend of mine who is into photography. He has got a job where he is going to take pictures of killer whales, and he has sold me in with my epic as well.

He has the 200-400, which I can borrow or even bigger. I have not had use for lenses like that before, and therefore I have no support. It will happen in just 2-3 days, and I can not order support.

Would it be ok to mount the lens to a tripod and the body on the lens? If I strip my camera? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you all in advance,
Eirik

Eirik,

if hand held it's ok, as one hand will be holding the lens and one the camera, but it is not ok for the lens of such dimensions to be hunting off the Ti Mount, as it can and will cause Micro bending damage at the rear mount end, while the Ti Mount will suffer no problems, even when using a 300L or 400L 2.8.

If on tripod you'll have no problems adapting the support that comes with the lens, unless it was lost, but you'll need a long set of Rods or a long Dovetail to screw in and secure the support.

If you do have the dovetail, and no support, you can make one yourself out of any material and kind of tape it around the lens.

If all fails, and you must only have one mount position then screw the support of the lens, and the camera on the back end remains floating, but with NO accessories mounted on, as the 3kg range of weigh is on the very limit of this lens mount.

Thank you for your tips. I will look into adapting on tripod and make something and gaffatape it. Think I have a long enough Dovetail that will work.
