Educational Pricing average reply time?

As a student film-maker i've always dreamed of shooting on RED and the new collection of Weapon-based cameras have made this a lot more possible for me. However, I was wondering whether anyone is waiting to here back on their application for the educational pricing discount?
I understand that RED will be extremely busy seeing as they are preparing for the release of these two cameras but it states that I should have heard back in 3-5 business days; it has now been 7.
Usually I'd just sit and wait but each day that goes by will make me further down the queue in terms of ordering my Scarlet-W.
Does anyone know if RED has a UK support line? if not is there an email address I can chuck and email over to? I'm not inpatient; I just want to get shooting on RED as soon as I can

If so then i'm gunna have to discard the student discount as being a student I can't warrant spending $15,000+ on something that i'm not able to create any income from...Out of all the people in the world we're the last that can have that sort of investment just sitting around unable to work.

As I have read it the cameras are to be used by students and faculty for educational purposes only. Using the camera to make money is not an educational endeavor. At that point it is an enterprise. How they would find out you are using it for profit is something else but if they do they have every right to charge you.

Is "payment due in full prior to shipping" not how it works when purchasing without the educational pricing?

Same. I figured I would learn the ins and outs of a Red system, but also get work and build up a client base in due time. But not 2 years after with the holding period.

Yeah, that's how it reads....However, it doesn't make sense logically. As a film student we are encouraged to get out in the industry and this was one of my ways of doing so; everyone else is offering the standard 1080p so I thought i'd sell my car and get something that will future-proof me. I originally saw the whole student pricing thing a bit like how NUS works in the UK; providing discounts from big brands to students where the cost of living is starting to hit them. If the RED educational pricing is literally just for students to use at university (which it will, but I can't warrant having a $15,000 camera just for that) then I guess i'll have to shell out the extra cash, as having a camera that is allowed to make it's cost back is better than being in even more debt as a student than I already am....

That's exactly how it works without educational pricing. I think they just mean what you are invoiced for is due in full whether it be educational pricing or full.

I agree but handing out discounts to a particular subset of people without justification is kind of unethical and may be illegal. This wording protects them and makes sure you are using the camera for educational purposes.

In terms of student discounts i'm not aware that it's unethical or illegal, in the UK at least it is something that is almost the 'done thing'. Therefore my initial understanding of it was that it was there to give universities and educational establishment the opportunity to allow their students to shoot RED should they purchase a bulk of them as well as providing students of film with a possible 'leg up' in the industry with the ability to purchase a RED camera for a little less than the price for people whom most likely are already deep within the industry.

Secondly, so when my folks get a senior citizen discount at Denny's, it is unethical or illegal? Or when a veteran gets a discount at Home Depot, same thing? Or when a bartender gives you one "on the house" because you had a bad day?

Jarred was a huge proponent of helping get students and educational entities. Let's try to not turn a positive into a negative...

Sorry Brent I didn't know that was wrong to post that information. It wont happen again.

I am not saying that the education program itself is wrong. It is actually greatly appreciated! I just meant that having the educational program without using it for educational purposes is unethical. Its like if I only gave discounts to people with brown eyes but didn't give a reason why they deserve to have the discount in the first place. The wording in terms protects Red because it justifies the program.

Also is it true that using the camera for profit while still being a student will break the terms?
