Hey this may be a stupid question but I was wondering if a macbook pro (2011 higher end 15 inch model) would be powerful enough to edit files shot on RED? Also how much of a difference would there be between editing on a macbook pro vs. mac pro desktop?

Probably what you would expect to hear.....big difference and hundreds of possibilites based on how you trick out either machine. I can't use my notebook any longer after working on desktop loaded with ram; esata, rocket card; raid etc....my macbook is nice, but a model t compared to my porche desktop. Can you do it? sure.

My brother has the new 15" i7 and from our limited testing in RedCine X and Premiere it seems to be able to handle 4.5K RED footage at quarter res, I was pretty impressed. My mid 2010 17" i7 isn't quite fast enough for that.
