Hi everyone,

We're bringing in our first major RED project, and I'm confounded by the various workflows proposed. In our case, we've got footage at 4K, 3K, and 2K (all 16:9), to be conformed as a 1080HD final. FCS 3 on new Mac Pro w/ good fast FC RAID storage.

To get started cutting quickly, I assumed I could edit with the proxies. I've followed all the recommendations, and my 2K _F proxies play fine, but 4K _H (which is 2K, right?) and 3K _F stutter badly.

I've seen the suggestion to edit using _M, which is fine for rough-cut, then we'll send R3D selects for color-correct, but since _M is being scaled UP to fit the 1080 sequence, how do I later go about replacing the clips with color-corrected full-res (2K, 3K, and 4K) footage, which will all need to be scaled DOWN varying degrees to fit the sequence? Does the scaling all have to be re-done manually?

Thanks in advance for any tips, or directions to anyplace this has already been covered. I've been searching for hours. Full disclosure: I'm not a full-time editor, I'm the support guy, but need to be intimately familiar with the workflows (and in most cases, dictate them).

If you go all the way to Color in the end, don't worry. Using the Clipfinder workflow, Color will use your original files, what ever proxies you may have been using. There are some difficulties with 3K, but they are solveable.

Please see David Battistella's workflow suggestions.
