Editing 4K with lower playback resolution inPP CC

Hi - new to Premiere Pro CC and wondering if I can just edit my 4K Scarlet footage on a 4K timeline with reduced playback resolution rather than rendering original footage on a 1080P sequence? Trying to find an offline solution without creating proxies..

Currently on my 2009 Mac Pro I can playback at 1/8 resolution fine. Soon upgrading to new i7 / 16GB iMac with RAID thunderbolt so will be able to drive footage at 1/2 resolution i think... Is this a sensible way to work?

yes theres a dropdown menu under your viewing window. It should say "Full", but if you click on it, it will bring up 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 those are playback resolutions.

Yes that's all I do.. 1/4 on the latest iMac works a treat
