hi there,

since I couldn't find any helpful information about this pretty much anywhere, I'm asking this here. I'd appreciate it a lot, if someone could help me with this and dearly hope that my question is not too stupid.

We just shot a short film on the RED MX in 4.5K (4480x1920) and now I'm trying to edit the material with Premiere Pro CS4, which doesn't work at all as I found out. Anytime I try to open the R3D-files, Premiere tells me that "ImporterREDServer.exe" doesn't work anymore. Re-installing the RED-Plugin didn't help. I edited another RED-Project a couple of weeks ago - which was 4K - without problems at all, so I figured (or hoped) that 4.5K would work out fine as well, but well, I was wrong.

Is there a way to make 4.5K material work in CS4 or do I have to buy CS5? Since the money is short I'd love the idea of getting along with CS4...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Best regards
Daniel

Sorry I don't think we ever enabled 4.5 k in CS4 and we are beyond updating it. However, CS5 has WAY better RED support all around so that is where you want to be if RED is your poison.

Cheers

I second this. With RED CS5 is a must if you're a Premiere user. It's a dream coming true!

Well, thanks for the answers. I kind of knew that this is gonna be the way, but also thought that we could save some bucks for this production working with CS4. But I'm surely excited about CS5 anyways :)

Oh no, I have to re-open this thread. I just got Premiere Pro CS5 and it actually works quite well with my 4.5K Footage but only for some minutes. Pretty quickly Premiere freezes and still tells me that "ImporterREDserver.exe" doesn't work anymore. Then I have to reload Premiere and get another couple of minutes of editing until Premiere freezes. Since it is quite hard to work like this, I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas what I could try to make it work properly. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Daniel,

Were you ever able to fix this issue? If so, I would appreciate hearing the solution. I'm also dealing with the same problem. Thank you for any help.

Jeremy

Sounds like a bug worth shooting off to adobe. I would recommend sending David McGraven (second post in this thread) a PM and asking if he can help resolve it for you. Adobe seems pretty keen these days to get everything ironed out and working the way it should be.
