  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ebay sale. Background check.

"1 SSD CARD SLOT" sounds suspect and doesn't sound like the person was the user of the camera. I would only buy from somebody who knows the camera in case you have questions/problems.

It's easy to confirm real sales. Ask for a photo of the camera with a copy of a paperback book and a thumbs up. Or a kitchen knife. Or something specific. Something that would be hard to fake quickly in photoshop.

ask for an eval, and serial number

Akin, What was "suspicious"? I thought the description was pretty good. And the pics were nicer than most ads that I've seen on ebay or here on reduser. Your concerns can be addressed with a phone call. The guy's number and website is there and apparently they are a production company. So, it's obvious that they know the camera. Don't listen to paranoid people and worry about what could be a typo in the description. Everything else is there. Good luck!

Jeff, I recently bought a bunch of gear on reduser and at least twice, a scammer attempted to get me, so I am cautious. You can call it paranoid if you want, but I don't want to deal with the drama. Read the scam thread and you'll see how much effort they will put in, including phone conversations.

I don't know anything about the person who listed the link in the OP. The person could be legit for all I know. And if so, great. I'm just pointing out little things that would make me think twice before bidding, based on what actual scammers have done previously. I've never heard any owner of a RED camera refer to a 1.8" or Mini-Mag Side SSD Module as an "SSD Card Slot,"so it would make me think twice. Maybe the person was typing fast or in a rush to post. If so, cool. Not trying to hate on his sale, just learning from the past.

This looks legit to me ie. original pics (?) No stupid email me now & buy it for $2500. No super short time frame either trying to avoid ebay checks.

He is also talking about RED checking it out. So get him to send to RED for O.C pending results then pay for it. Everyone is covered.

use credit card for payment

I recently had an adventure while buying a Zeiss Otus 55mm from Ebay. The seller had good feedback (>20 positive, no negatives, all during the last couple of months, having sold a Zeiss ZE 15mm, MacBooks, etc, but seemed inexperienced, she was getting rid of things of her father) so I went ahead and bid on it. After a week I received an empty box. The seller had sent it with the italian post, uninsured, and there wasn't any sign of the original weight of the package (it arrived 280gr). I made an unboxing video, but Ebay asked me for a police report. After filing for a lawsuit, and sending Ebay a copy, I got my money back. Frustrating, but Ebay/Paypal had me covered. My advice is to insist on paying for a good shipping company even if the seller offers free shipping, and reject/return a package if you understand that there is a problem from just holding it, I was unlucky and the post office had already scanned my package so I had to accept it. That being said, I've been buying/selling on Ebay since 1997, and it's the first time I had to deal with an empty box :)
