Excellent! Thank you for the generous window, I should be placing my order in June (since my Red is out until then)

I am very interested. I just sent a PM. This could save my poor old aching back.

EasyRig - Cinema 3

On your website, I don't see any version 3 models listed other than the 700 and 850. 300-600 are listed as version 2.5.

We created a Cinema 3 (Models 200 - 850) for RED Users. Previously, Cinema 3 was only available in 2-models.

My rig weight changes based on configuration. Is there an option to switch springs for different weight setups?

Yes. You can change the internal shock mechanism to fit your camera load.

EasyRig @ CineGear

We, 16x9 Inc., will be at CineGear (Paramount Studios) next week , June 5th and 6th. On display, we will have an EasyRig & a RED One loaded with our accessories.

For those in the neighborhood and interested in the EasyRig, this may be a great time to try the unit first-hand.

I'll be there. Hope you will have a LARGE vest on hand, whether it be a cinema 3 vest or a 2.5.

Thanks for the offer...I'd like to know how much the extra shock absorbing pistons cost... since I'm torn between the 600 and 700. Thanks

I heard around $150-175 USD? Just change it prior to the shoot day(s).

That cheap? I thought it was more a new arm is like $1000

Is it possible to adjust it to take less of the weight so, while you get some support, it's also easier to tilt etc?

It's all a matter of getting used to using it. Very difficult to make a judgement on it having strapped it on once or twice. My suggestion is to use it for a while and then write a review. I used one extensively on Time Warp (Discovery) and got used to making it work in almost all situations. It is not designed to be used in a car. I'm a big fan if you need to be hand held all day.

Appreciate that review. Thanks Norm

I just tried my EasyRig3 600N with a fully loaded RED kit.

Here's my review:

I think this definitely takes the weight away from the arms and can make operating easier at times but it has it's limitations as well. It's definitely not for every application. It's also neat how you can pull it down to get a lower hip or chest level shot quite easily and quickly.

However, I don't like how it limits myself as an operator. It's very difficult (actually near impossible) to tilt normally with it. If you want to tilt using the shoulder as a pivot point, you simply can't as the cable's tension above is preventing you from doing so...unless you REALLY pull hard but that already ruins the shot if it has to be all in one shot and not just a repo to grab the next tilt angle. You have to try pretty hard to tilt down with the cable tension fighting you. In order to "tilt", you have to kind of lean forward and point down in order to tilt but that's a whole different feel than quickly tilting down. You're tilting from the position where the camera is hooked. It's not as organic. I felt that I had to fight with it more than it helping me while I was trying many different scenarios I shoot handheld in. Having most of the weight taken off your shoulder is nice but at the same time, it takes away a little of the organic feeling of having some weight to hold onto that creates the proper float that I am normally after. Maybe I need more practice with the EasyRig but it didn't really suit me as well as it has for many others.

There are other little things that weren't of my particular preference or I would change to improve, but overall, I can see it helping a lot of people out.

For documentaries or the type of handheld where you don't need to manipulate the camera much, I think it's great. Takes the weight off and easy to get stable pictures in a general static position. If you need to quickly repo yourself from standing to tilting down or kneeling down, and then back up (which is awkward because of the vest), etc...you might find it cumbersome. I find having a vest on feels very inhibiting to get into awkward positions quickly to get the right shot. For shooting in smaller tight compact spaces (i.e inside a car, plane, attic, etc), I can see it being better to shoot without it.

It definitely has it's applications and I think it will help save many backs and arms but it's not the be-all-end-all of handheld situations. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great invention, and I encourage people to purchase it, but this is my honest review of the system.

EasyRig Feedback

Appreciate that review. Thanks Norm
We appreciate Norm's feedback.

There's one thing that should be mentioned. Norm wrote: "If you want to tilt using the shoulder as a pivot point, you simply can't as the cable's tension above is preventing you from doing so... unless you REALLY pull hard..." and "you have to kind of lean forward and point down in order to tilt..."

This statement leads me to conclude that Norm's camera set-up was too light for the EasyRig he purchased. In his case, the lighter camera load was preventing him from handling the camera properly.

This is the reason we highly recommend every user to weigh their camera set-up prior to buying an EasyRig.

Nevertheless, I'm in contact with Norm to proceed as he wishes.

Hi Michael,

Could you answer the question regarding purchasing an additional pulley system for configuring the rig for different cameras? Is this possible and what is the cost? Thanks in advance.

I've had the same experience as Norm with this system and wish there was a way to adjust the pulley tension easily for that 'perfect' fit. Otherwise it does inhibit one's operating.

It seems that if your camera configuration weighs 40lbs, you actually want a rig that carries 30lbs or so of the weight so that there is still solid contact between the camera and your shoulder. Any opinions on this?
