Poor fish came to see wtf is going on.

Retarded species, humans.

Why in this day and age does the video have to be so crappy? Haven't they heard of hidef cameras and fiberoptic link to the surface?

Anybody know what the scale is? How big is that pipe?

I think it's funny that we're looking at a live video feed from about a mile beneath the surface of the ocean and there are criticisms concerning the image quality.

21 in O/D, 20 in I/D. Big enough to cover 45,000 square miles or 1/5th of the U.S. Gulf fishing grounds with oil. Burned the rig down with a 500 foot tall firestorm that could be seen 100 miles away. One estimate is an Exon Valdez every day and a half. This ain't no garden hose. No one knows what's under the surface. It's BP's camera. They won't let anyone else look.

As heart wrenching as this is it's amazing that we are actually getting these images.

Not trying to thread-jack, but on a similar note, we are getting live-ish feeds from space from helmets cams!

saddest thing ive ever seen

over 7,000,000,000 gallons spilled and 200,000 a day coming out ...

thats my estimate ..doesnt take long to kill the planet

i feel guilty every time i get in the car

The writing is on the wall, but is anybody going to read it that can make a difference?
I often wonder what Manhattan would be like without cars. Much cleaner air, and quiet.

Mile long video cable runs are not that hard. Deep ROVs have been around for decades. I've made housings for a mile deep.

The well itself is something like 23,000 feet deep.

I suspect they aren't all that interested in a better picture - just more/better evidence.

Evidence? This was originally a private feed so BP could see what was going on down there.

If it wasn't for the white house pressuring them to make it public we would never see it.

well if you look at the rate of the output, there's no way its only 5,000 barrels a day, that's only a million gallons........that thing is pushing out a barrel a second I bet...that volume of fluid just looks mesmerizing and crazy bad news.
AND BP HAS THE EXACT SPECS ON PRESSURE, VOLUME ETC. This really is a basic calculation exercise, its not like they don't have the info.......
http://www.pipeflowcalculations.com/flowrate/index.htm

BP EXEC'S SHOULD BE JAILED FOR NOT RELEASING THE FLOW INFO! POLITICIANS SHOULD BE STRUNG UP FOR NOT MAKING THEM RELEASE THE INFO, AND FOR NOT PROTECTING US FROM THIS!

THIS SITUATION IS WHAT A F'N GAMECHANGER LOOKS LIKE !

Rant off. I'm so pissed about this!

The End Of Easy Oil

The End Of Easy Oil

The era of easy oil is over and with it comes the human and environmental costs - YouTube video link below.

LINK

Humans - the achitects of our own demise.

What I don't understand is how after 5 weeks of failure by BP to stop this environmental catastrophe, that the U.S. government won't take over and do everything they can to resolve this.

Clearly BP is just crossing their fingers and hope something will work.

BUT, what if it doesn't? Then what?

What is the US government supposed to do? Send in the Emergency out of control oil well under a mile of water fixing team? This is very specialized work with very specialized gear and very specialized guys. I believe the technical term for the current situation is a "Shit sandwich".

I'm not saying that there is an emergency dive team standing by for this stuff but is the U.S. in the loop when it comes to strategy for dealing with this? That's what I meant.

Are you ok with the idea of having the people who created this problem, who don't seem to have a plan to deal with it, being in charge of it? I sure don't like it. :cursing:

How about spending some $$$ to form that specialized team and build that specialized gear (which should have been made long ago),
something like barrel sized, spiral surfaced diggers with explosive in them, send a dozen down the pipe and blow the hole shut?

This time without Bruce Willis.

...or watch geniuses spill toxic chemicals into our planet's mouth, on top of all the oil,

and try to plug a hole by pumping stuff into blown high pressure valve. Ask a plumber what he thinks about that.

1. You cant plan for something that has never happened before.
2. Its amazing how everyone has become a deep water construction/demo expert in the last few weeks.
3. Unfortunately as much as I hate to admit it BP is the only group that is equipped to deal with this. The only thing that the government could feasibly do would be to take the Russians approach to similar incidents and detonate a nuclear device on top of the well... No I'm not joking thats how they fix the situation when it happens in their waters.

Really ? How did man get into space then ?

2. Its amazing how everyone has become a deep water construction/demo expert in the last few weeks.

Can you blame them ?

You base this on...
