  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

wow, what a nice ride back in time!

I remember participating in a Film vs. HD Workshop in December 2006 (we were shooting the same scene with an arricam ST 35mm and a panasonic varicam day-in-day-out) and in some coffee break discussion someone asked one of our instructors: "What do you think of the red camera?"
and Louis-Philippe Capelle answered with his heavy belgian/french accent: "From an engeneering point of view it is possible."

I have been following the discussion on dvxuser / reduser a bit, but reservation was closed at that time, but i received to following answer to my email:

Hello Martin,

The reservation period is closed at the moment but will open for 4 days, 1/21-1/24 through our website.

The current pricing for the camera body is $17,500 (reservation: $1,000), the 300 f2.8 is $4995 (reservation: $500), the Zoom is $9,500 (reservation: $750). Accessories have not yet been priced.

As soon as the reservation time window opened again i spent four days of doubt, going around in circles, etc. because everyone around told me RED is scam and the main problem wasn't the deposit but what happens if the camera will be delivered in time and i won't have the full amount of money i have to pay then ... ;-)

Anyway, my wife finally pushed me to pull the trigger (i think she just wanted to stop all my blabla) and I wired my deposit via Paypal and I still have RED #1456 (MX) now called "Queen Mum" working (most of the time as b-camera next to our Epic-X)

You guys and your fancy R's... They shut off sending out R's just a few people before me. As I said early on in this discussion, I was always bummed I didn't get one. Funny, I've had people offer to sell me theirs over the past years when I say that. No, I don't want someone else's, I just wanted one with my camera number on it. Oh well... That's the past and I'm ready to embrace the future next week. Gimme Dragon and a REDRAY projector and I'll be a happy man.
 
I remember being so annoyed with myself for not putting down a deposit first time around , then I heard that the reservation period would reopen for four days so i put down a deposit and changed my life. I am so proud to be an early adopter. My only annoyance when I received #1152 was that I had only put down one deposit.

No!!! I mean, there's only like 15 guys between me and the last Ti R that was issued. So, I think your idea sucks... All due respect intended. :001_tt2: But yeah, if I had an R, that would be an awesome idea. LOL

Haha. I guess I'm one of those. My Ti R (945) sits on my desk and reminds me of the early days. Good times! Since then reducer changed a lot. Somehow the gold-rush mood is gone... no wonder really.

Yes, it seems maturity has set in on Reduser... but there are enough new guys and gals getting on board to keep the wonder alive and to keep the ones who've been here the longest in touch with how we felt in those heady days of waiting for the promise to be shipped.

There are times when a feeling enters my consciousness that I recognize from my younger days. Once recognized, I try desperately to fine tune the feeling to prolong it and give me the same feeling of wellness I faintly remember from the past. But so much time has passed between then and now that I can't recapture the euphoria and am left longing for more.

I don't want to lose that same good feeling I remember from '07 when I became a future Red camera owner and a member of the Reduser community. This forum means (to me, at least) that by seeing the new Redusers with their excitement over becoming owners of a special camera, I can keep the memory of my own special time more vivid in my mind and won't have to suffer the loss of a good and wonderful feeling similar to the ones from my distant past.

that's 14 guys and a girl. I think I'll go pet my Titanium R and tell it how much I love and appreciate it...I don't do that often enough, apparently. Jeff would be a much more attentive guardian than I am, there is no justice in the world.

Perhaps the greatest reward for early adopters, would be a growing number of future adopters.
 
I remember researching cameras for my first short in 2005. I'm not sure but did RED.com exist by then? It was just the logo and a few words about what was planned? I have a memory of reading it and thinking how awesome this sounds and how this would piss off the big companies...
Still it wasn't until much later that I joined reduser mainly in the hopes for the scarlet that never happened. Maybe one day it will make sense for me to earn a RED cam... still lookin forward to that day...
