  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

E-Sata CF Readers....

I'm eagerly awaiting RED Station. Every SATA CF reader I have ever tried has been problematic in some way. Best solution I have at the moment has been a home-brew one of my own. It was an Addonics SATA to CF adapter and I put it inside a small enclosure. It died though, after 4 or 5 months of use, so I replaced the card with one -- I think a SYBA brand. Either way, I bought both from Newegg. I think Addonics makes their own external enclosure for their card, but I don't recall for sure. The SYBA one works just as well, which means it is just OK. I found both to be flakey at times and somewhat finicky over which SATA hosts they like to work with.

thanks so much for the info. guys. although i WANT to get faster downloads via esata, the lexar FW800 has worked so well, i wanted to post this first. jeff, i like your solution, but like you, i am eagerly awaiting the red station to see how it does. i like the fact it is the same CF reader that is in the camera. should be the one i think, and although pricey, if it is fast enough, and super reliable, it'll be worth it.

Is anyone using the QIO from Sonnet? Aside from being cost prohibitive, it looks like a good solution for the data manager dealing with CF, SxS and other data cards. Sonnet has a pretty good reputation as far as I can tell.

QIO

QIO

I would also like to know if anyone has experience with the QIO. I manage data for multiple camera types and it would keep me from hauling around every card reader on the planet!

Yeah I have a QIO, not overly impressed by it.
To be honest not worth the pricetag. Its fast but its a case of how much do I want to pay for fast and its not overly well built.

We weren't so lucky with the Lexar CF Reader. We had two that started to corrupt transfers after a while and had to be replaced.
