DZOFILM Vespid Full Frame Prime Cinema Lenses in EF and PL

Domenic,

What would you say their look resembles in current high end cine lenses?
Are they more like Cooke VS Master prime etc?

I have the zooms and love them

Curtis

Hard to give a "looks Like" but id say they mostly resemble leica r summicrons in the sense that they have fun flares (different iris set up so not same shape) not too contrasty, they get milky with off axis light, and the wides have a bit of distortion. Good blend between modern and vintage. If I had to pick a modern spherical equivalent, it wouldn't be anything too new, so maybe like slightly more contrasty standard speed zeiss. Might be closest I can come up with.

DZOFilm Vespid + Alexa Mini LF Test Footage - Part 1

By
Blaine Westropp

Alexa Mini LF OG (cropped to 16x9)

DZOFilm Vespid 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 125mm

All clips shot at T2.1.
Camera position remained unchanged. In the first couple shots, it looks darker in the top left corner, this is due to a screen being in that section of the window.

All clips (from each camera position) were graded with the same exact look.

In part 2, we will do a similar test but with a model in the studio.

Domenic,

Very nice reply / review. Thank you for this.

Of course the Leica-R are very popular vintage glass, . I own a set as many do.
Not really sure where my "favorite" lies because I like them for some things, ..
and the super sharp Sigma primes shot wide open for other things.

The Vespids are so small it seems like they would be great for Gimble work.

But, nice description, .. Seems like they have a similar look to the Pictor zooms.
The Pictor zooms aren't crispy sharp, have wonderful flairs, just a very nice look.

Cheers,

C

Very excited about these. Looking into getting a set. I'd love to know more about the potential release of a 16mm. Would be lovely to have something matching that's wider than a 25mm.
