  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DVXuser migration...

SM hit the nail on the head
I vividly disagree : ) Speaks a regular poster there for eight years now... dvxuser never was so eclectic* as of today. And far away to only be the DSLR crowd...

* Credits for Jason and moderators like Kholi, as for instance, among others and Jarred/Jim's policy through Landmine Media, of course.

It's the nature of most internet forums unfortunately (with the exception of the few genuinely level-headed places like DVinfo, which yes, has shut down some conversations, but all in the pursuit of keeping the place level headed, which I personally appreciate).

What I'll never understand is how people can get so rabid over what are, at the end of the day, just tools. It's the reason I've defended Sony, Panasonic and Arri cameras on here repeatedly; and the same reason I've defended Red and Canon cameras repeatedly over on DVXuser. They're all just tools, and most tend to do one thing better than the others.

None of them are worth stressing and arguing over.

Sadly rabid fanboyism is the main reason I have to avoid the Recon and Brain Specific sub-forums on here entirely, and stick to the rest of the forum, which is far more balanced and helpful.

I don't think it's appropriate to use reduser as a forum to bash other forums. If you don't like the content or the way things are run, then don't use them. There are plenty of other free watering troughs on the web.

I live on both forums and I dont care too much about fanboys, haters, noobs etc. because I always can find lot of very smart people on both forums and thats what I care about. But unfortunately sometimes others cant stand it and decide to leave, like Claudio Miranda few years ago.

First off, no one bashed that forum. If you read again, you'll see I mentioned the practices of the webmaster a decade ago -- not the forum. Yet yesterday, earlier than your post, I linked an article published on dvinfo (so, nothing against the site) by Adam Wilt (very different individual who has earned my respect along the years from day one ;)

My mention: the practices practiced there in the beginning years, i.e. always the same typical monologue performed by the same actor well beyond his affirmative trace(s), let's wish just about objectionable editing :X As posted, no idea now. Basically, we are responsible for what we do, not exactly who we are, we can be the coolest guy on earth. And have our inner circle. It doesn't mind and won't change the fact. Terrible practices, by the way, and reported from several sources, not literally a personal opinion. The world is not B&W as a few want to believe or would like to suppose so (so, "keeping the place level headed" doesn't clean the forefront ;) far away to be anything more than just another opinion : ) I've given the credit these practices may vary nowadays. What do I know other than intended factual substance from past? I stopped to attend there :P and we're learning new things everyday. Even if for that, we need to be open in the end, no idea if it still is the case in that beach today, as said.

You fairly hinted, I abandoned to often read it and left alone per se (as much as upcoming redusers it seems so, once the sub-forum simply eclipsed from dvinfo...) but from the correspondence I traded with Chris Hurd almost a decade ago, very unlikely to see a change. The old design of the site serves solely as metaphor. A set of principles is what matters here. As I've also had the chance to post, me and Barry, we were even discussing legal details about the practices operated on dvinfo then, with an advantage to my side: Barry is pixels expert (among other stuff) but I have background in the area (also among other stuff : ) so you can imagine it may have been useful our conversation to Barry or he hadn't spent hours on it, I presume. Barry's name came to this thread (as well, the case of dvinfo here didn't pop up from scratch and not by my hands at first shot) only 'cause another poster compared Barry and referred dvinfo as a friendlier (!) place than dvxuser, which comparative adjective I refuted. Based on facts, not only entitled to have my opinion (bashing is something of other nature which neighbourhood I obviously refuse).

On both to my knowledge, dvinfo vs dvxuser, Chris Hurd vs Barry Green. It is like night and day.

Many thanks, Mark -- that's quite a compliment and I appreciate it a great deal. Much respect!

I wish I had more time to talk to you at NAB, but it was great to see you at least for a few minutes. Can't wait to see your Corman doc!
