Too funny. After posting an ebay productlink at dvxuser.com asking about experiences with specific fluro lights I noticed that I have been banned till December 15th for spamming.

This is somewhat arrogant behaviour. Especially funny it gets if you take into consideration that some site sponsors post advertising links for their products all the time and mine wasn't meant as an advertising for anything. Just a simple question.

DVXuser.com really sucks.

Yeah, and it is owned by the same man that owns this site. Ooops!

I guess we will see you here again December 16th. j/k

Seriously, advertisers who pay good money to sponsor the site should have the right to advertise their stuff all the time. That is part of the deal when you sign up to advertise.

FYI, Ebay links are not allowed on either site.

Well, many posted also links to either flolights, coollights or vidled and asked for reviews. What's so different in doing the same thing with an ebay-seller now? I've seen many ebay-links over on HV20.com. Never have seen banned anyone because of it.

Send an email to Jason Ramsey over there and try to resolve it off site. They are good people, perhaps they just made a mistake.

I am pretty certain that Jarred doesn't handle any of the running of the dvxuser site any longer. I too would suggest contacting Jason.

I had a couple of small run-in's over the years on DVXuser, but only because I was being childish and didn't see the bigger picture. Sites like DVXuser and REDuser are not a right, but rather a privilege.

Sites like this and others are private sites and usually run for years (until sponsors get on board) and then even more years at little to no profit. Site builders such as Jarred really DO need to have some stringent rules in place or things get out of hand REALLY quickly. I was just on a site where the moderators have lost control and spam is filling the boards and it's become useless to get information.

The no eBay thing is there for a reason. Your link seems to have been with good intentions, but thousands wouldn't be if it were allowed.

Saying that DVXuser, which is an amazing resource "suck" because you got in trouble for breaking a basic and talked about rule, is a bit over the top.

Best,

Jason

I see. But then I have to say it was clearly market with "what are your experiences with these lights."

I've found the penetrate advertising of some site sponsors there a lot more spam for any user, if that's the according term. It's just a bit schizophrenic.

I'm sure you didn't intend any harm. You have to realize though, if your post were allowed, there would be plenty of folks tomorrow posting "anyone have any experience with (my ebay auction here) ?" in hopes someone might click & maybe buy...

I got banned from a music forum for spamming even though I carefully read and re-read their rules and followed them perfectly. It just proves, though, that forums are generally dictatorships and whether you're banned or not has little to do with rules, in my experience. The best forums aren't like that. I've run forums before, I've moderated two or three forums and administrated several others, and I'm usually really easy going about what anyone says because I'm more concerned about protecting free speech than about enforcing my opinions about what anyone says. I had even been flamed on those forums before, with the power to ban the people who flamed me, and I definitely didn't do anything to them because to me it's childish and sets a bad precedent. If anyone could be flamed I would say it's the admin or mods, because they have to take a bit more heat since they do have more power; at least, that's how I saw it...

The music forum was hilarious, it said you had to have 15 posts to make a post in the advertising forum. So I got to about 19 posts, and they were all long (look at my posts, when do I ever make short posts?! Rarely!), thoughtful, and I was really getting into it. I mean I enjoyed the forum, there were questions like which decade had better music, the '80s or '90s? So I came to this forum thinking, hmm, maybe a good place to offer my services as a music video production company / director, but after a bit I forgot why I even came there, so I started getting into a lot of discussions. So a few days later I end up posting in the proper forum, the advertising forum, and gave a bit of information about my production company and showed a sample music video. I was banned like two hours later for spamming, permanently banned, and all of my posts were deleted, even the ones in the content sections. I just thought, wow, what a forum, you follow the rules, you post in the proper forum so as not to disturb any other forums, and you still get banned when you took care to read their rules and follow them. It was a depressing experience because I felt bad, I hate spammers, I didn't want to come across that way and I certainly thought I was following their rules.

I was banned on the Yankees forum too, that one was hilarious, because it only took six months before everything I said was 100% true and that experience still has me smiling. I love my Yanks, but boy, that forum is full of morons. Nobody knows what they are talking about basically, and if you don't agree with the mods you get banned. I posted "Tony Womack really sucks," which was true, he was ranked 751st out of 752 players in on-base-percentage, and I was about the (honestly) 54th person in the thread to mention how bad he was and how we needed to bench him. I got banned for "player bashing"! Bashing a player who was a Yankee for about 5 weeks at the time, and a guy who sucked hardcore. But I know the real reason I was banned, which is arguing with a moderator over whether your strikeout per 9 innings ratio mattered for a pitcher. I said it doesn't matter at all, it's irrelevant, strikeouts are the same as any other outs and even take more pitches than groundouts in general. They said since Chien Mien Wang's K/9 ratio was low he'd eventually start to suck. He finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting that year, so I was clearly right, and the following year he was still strong until the playoffs. But I got called a n00b who knows nothing about baseball because I clearly don't understand the stats. Reminds me of how I said Eric Duncan sucks, he isn't going to amount to anything, and at the time he was the Yankees #1 prospect, so I got called stupid, retarded, you don't know what you're talking about, you must never have watched baseball, etc. I said look at his stats, he's terrible, he can't even hit .250 in the minors, he won't make it. Well, a year later, guess who was right again? Baseball America named him a bust and he sucked hardcore in AAA, so bad they decided to move him back down to AA. I've rarely been wrong about anything baseball related, at least about the Yankees because I do know what I'm talking about, but sometimes popular opinion is dead wrong and I say so. The mods didn't care for that, so they banned me. But I got the last laugh because I'm not the moron who has no idea what he's talking about. "I've followed baseball 20 years!" I'm sorry for you then, you wasted your time, I know more than you do.

I got banned from a music forum for spamming

No friggin' way! I can't imagine you'd piss any board op off you're so easy going and non-opinionated. ;-)

I think Jarred runs this board for RED as opposed to actually owning himself. So I do think this board has no real affiliation to DVXuser. I'm not sure I'd go to DVxuser to hear fair and honest camera comparisons. It's as pro panasonic as it gets. Other than that I like it.

You want cheap flolights check out the new ones from Amvona.com. I haven't had experience with them.. but wow they are really inexpensive and I bet they are clones of the Flolights which are from China.

I posted a link to the "Mini-Cinematograph" on eBay and never got banned. Hmm...

I think Jarred owns both. But he just spends so much time working with RED that he can't do as much on DVXuser. He's got over 80,000 posts on there, so he was always there. But his time is heavily occupied with RED now. And NoahK (who is also moderator at DVXuser) once said, it's not a sepreatist organization.

And NoahK (who is also moderator at DVXuser) once said, it's not a sepreatist organization.

I'm not sure what Noah meant but a while back they definitely "seperated" every other camera away and recommended people go to DVinfo.net if they want to talk about non-Panny cameras. When the HVX-200 was getting blown out of the water in every side by side test anyone other than one's Barry did they got tired of it and told everyone it was a Panny board after all so move along.

I still remember a salesperson that used to frequent that board telling me on the phone that the JVC had "too much resolution" when I told him my new HVX with REAL 1080P wasn't holding up against the HD-100 at 720P. The RED must be completely out of the question for that guy.

Another big HVX proponent on the board once posted after 6 months with the camera he found it's Achilles heal. Scenery shots. Hahaha... the guy was a guru there and hadn't shot the damn thing outside his studio perfect lighting world ONCE.

The whole experience really taught me a very valuable lesson about always testing this stuff for yourself. RED is no exception.

Well I can you post my little email-"conversation" with this Jarred guy:

Me:
Banned? What? Others post also productlinks on here.
This is somewhat arrogant behaviour.

Jarred:
yes.

Me:
well, it was just a question about some fluros. as I can't understand it I will post about this strange banning behaviour on other sites..

Jarred:
yes.

Well I can you post my little email-"conversation" with this Jarred guy:

Well, what kind of answers do you expect when calling him arrogant and threaten to post this to other sites (which happens to be Jarred's, too).

That is too funny. Jarred's a funny guy who stays calm. I agree with MarcusX.
