  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Duclos PL Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8

1.4x for PL

1.4x for PL

I got the hood a while back. FYI, Adorama also makes an off-brand one.

So, can anyone recommend a 1.4X PL extender for this Duclos Nikkor 80-200? How much light and image quality will I lose? If I add a 1.4x, will I then need support for the lens? I'd like to avoid that, to keep the camera setup extremely light.

Clay I will shoot a resolution chart and some samples with this 80-200 once I get #352 MX!
If good enough for the Optimo should do for the 80-200

What's the price? Anyone here have opinions on this extender vs other ones? Will I need support if I add this to Duclos 80-200?
You won't need support any more than for the lens itself.
Call Camera House in LA they have 10 in their rental inventory
The price is $1850 list.

I used this lens for the first time on the job and I have to say I'm really impressed.
It did much better than in my initial backyard tests. Contrast and sharpness are up there with all good cine zooms. The reverse focus and short throw didn't bother me at all, it's easy to get used to

I don't have a comprehensive chart test but here's some frame grabs:

Stunning. Great shots BTW Milan!

Did you spray the branches or were they wet?

Cheers Roberto.

We did this shoot in England, the ice and snow started melting during the day so the water drops on the trees were au naturel.
Unfortunately the roads and everything else turned to mud.

How long is the focus throw? Did I miss that tidbit in the thread?

It's super short, especially when using the FF but if you are pulling your own focus it's perfect.
Pulling focus on cine zooms like Angi HR was impossible when I was running and gunning on my own ... not to mention the weight.

These stills are from a Red video? What frame rate were you shooting at? (I ask because of the shutter speed) Looks quite good for a relatively inexpensive lens.

BTW: Is that Ken? I though he ran for Subaru.

Shooting 23.98
Those are jpegs from 2k TIFFs out of Rocketcine-X with a basic color pass.
I don't shoot all action at 1/250th but I sometimes like high shutter speed effect. Makes cars look fast! ;)

Ken signed with Ford this year, which will allow him to race seven WRC races this year in the Focus RS. Subaru pulled out of WRC couple of years ago.

Cheers,

Milan

Also, he will be in his Ford Fiesta for all of the Rally America races this season. Good stuff indeed.

I figured you were shooting high speed. Stills look great. I am thinking about picking up this lens for my Nikon and using it on my Scarlet S35.
