Hi!

Would like to share a short documentary/corporate about a construction company in Dubai. (Cant name them due to strange permissions.)
Small crew, about 4 people on every location. Me, the director, first AC and a production manager. Everything shot in a run and gun style with natural lights.
Shot on Red obviously...

Lenses:
Cooke 18 - 75
Optimo Zoom 24-290mm
Red Zoom 18-50mm

2k (slowmo stuff) and 4k
Graded in color

DOP: Hannes Isaksson
Director and Colorist: Martin Steinberg
Music: Johan Ström

Enjoy.

Good stuff man, they actually let you do an interesting little video. very industrial. I find most of the big companies here want the usual flashy plasticy videos and dont give you much room to breathe. Well done.

Love it. Add a good VO actor reading a good paragraph or two written in a way that's sure to please the client and you are set. I know a guy that would send you your text recorded in English with an option to use it for cheap if you liked his work.

I liked the untouched creamy/rich look. If you wanted a bit more contrast that might please more people but I thought it fit very well with the light, place and score. If you are going to grade it differently just make sure to take advantage of the new color science. Thanks for sharing.

Mate that is gorgeous.. THIS people is what 'having a good eye' is all about. 100''s of people could walk through that place and not see the framing and shots you guys grabbed, it takes a great eye to then choose the slices of life and turn a boring reality into beauty!
DEFINITELY want to see more of this when your done :-)

well done

This is beautiful. A bit sombre though (knowing the workers are severely underpaid) but beautiful. Youve captured the essence of a cosmopolitain city rising from amidst the sands, literally. "From amidst the sands i create ye spiring cities of might". Thats what it looks like. (I made that up, its not a quote from a holy book or anything)

I love the Bulldozer doing burnouts at 1:21 lol.
"Dubai.. Where even the bulldozers do burnouts"

That was shot well done. Were there other companies competing for the same project? Do you mind if I ask what was the final budget? How long will be the final video?

Thanks for the kind words!
I forgot to say that this is a final piece. It's the directors cut. We did about 14 short films about each location with a VO, but it went in a different way than the director and I wanted so that's why we did a directors cut.

I said 'nice' before, but this was Real nice. I did a little bit of 'run and gun' ing with an Optimo 24-290, that's no easy task! To get these compositions and smooth moves with real people in unscripted situations takes strategy and action, with an element of risk. It paid off: haunted me almost- and as I prepare for 3 weeks of verite work, it inspires. Thanks for sharing!
