DSMC2 V-LOCK Battery module without expander

Does the DSMC2 V-Lock battery module requires an expander module to function, or does it function as a stand alone attached to the back of the camera?
I was going to buy one today, but I got told that it needs a base expander to work. Is it correct?

So the only cableless solution for v-mount would be dsmc2 V-lock I/O expander, correct? Any other options?

I am trying to build my accessory requirements for the new camera.

Alberto-

You can absolutely use just the v-lock battery module without an expander to run the camera. You just lose out on having the SDI, CTRL, SYNC etc ports that you
do with the other modules. I use mine with the base expander when I need those ports or without when I want a smaller, lighter camera build.
