  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When the reality is Arri has done this. They have dropped camera prices buy 40% overnight. Canon dropped their C300 in half. TWICE. Sony has done the same. Let's not forget the F23/F35 debacle.

There is such a big difference though. We actually give a shit. And unlike the above examples, we didn't lower prices because we have a new shiny toy. We lowered prices because I woke up one day and realized our cameras were more expensive than they should be. It strayed from the foundation of why we started this company.

We buckled down and made it work. We shrunk our team and unified our product and joined our camera business with one of the best supply chain companies in the world to help make things cheaper.

Sure.. we could of just shut the fuck up and increased our margins and quietly laughed all the way to the bank like everyone else does... but we didn't. We passed that on to our customers. Because that's why we are here. It's not about the money. And that's the irony, because that's why people are upset.

We have done this many times before. Every single one of you has taken advantage of our dedication to making the best cameras as affordable as possible so the most amount of people no matter how rich they are can have the best tools to make their art without compromise. Even those that bought cameras a week ago paid less than they would of. Because that's how it works. And even if you are not a RED customer... I think it's safe to say we made the rest of the industry change to your benefit.

Its also why we are dealing with you all one by one. Because we don't need to do anything. We really don't. Some of you get it , some of you don't. And we will reward the level of compassion accordingly.

Thanks! From starting with my Red One for more than 10 years a go, MX, Epic, Dragon, Epic-W till now, following and going to upgrade again! As a a owner DoP i can say Red is Best compagny ever!! Big thanks!
 
Curious if the retooling and price adjustments will effect any accessories... Shouldn't they also be correlated in some way with these changes?

Since accessories are universal across RED cameras, I will suppose they've built the manufacturing for optimization, remember with the brain, the key cost driver is the sensor Fab which is where RED tried to build for optimization in the current readjustment hence the price adjustment in the Brains. The other side of the coin is that, one can assume it's far more easier to outsource the accessories manufacturing and that could have been the case, if that holds true, then any major adjustments within the RED production line wouldn't necessarily affect accessories' cost.

Just my 2 cents, could be wrong though, as these are just my own theories
 
Has anyone received an update confirmation once they scheduled and submitted the google doc?

Fair point. However seems a bit contradictory to "pave the way for future creators" yet have a price tag of $2,750 on a monitor that I still can't see in daylight and has had no resolution or performance improvements over previous models. Not to mention it has somehow had a longer life cycle than every single camera that was just discontinued or repriced yet accessories like this and others remain unaffected.

Drove my cameras down to Irvine on Thursday. I submitted my original request a few hours after they opened up the request to upgrade. Got and email back a few days later asking about a date that would work for me. Chose June 11-15 and for an email the afternoon of the 13th saying it needed to be dropped off or mailed by the 15th to keep my spot in line. Dropped off and now 7-10 business days!
 
I completed my upgrade through CineSauce. If I’m not mistaken they have some Gemini in stock.

Interesting, are they just letting people do upgrades with the standard in-stock Geminis? I figured it was a special thing arranged with RED and that the in-stock Geminis were just for new sales.

I'm not sure. I reached out and they had them in stock, new DSMC2 unified Gemini and they did my trade-in for me.
 
Has anyone here already received a Dsmc2 Helium / Gemini? Just wondering how long shipment takes since it shouldn‘t be too long according to the online shop as well as my sales rep.
 
Shooting a feature start of August, and was hoping to have the Epic-W Helium -> Gemini upgrade before it. Almost don't want to risk not having the camera back in time if I don't hear about the upgrade soon. :(

Filled out the upgrade request on day 2 of it opening.

Contact Cine-Sauce - I know they have Gemini in stock and are doing upgrades.
 
I got a broken English reply (typed on a smartphone, so I can see how), but from what I can translate, it seems that RED may be outsourcing some upgrades to CineSause, if we're "selected". They schedule the upgrades when RED tells CineSause that they are ready.
