hi is anyone having any problems with the side handle

when the camera arrived i noticed that the side handle was not being recognised every time, it would take a reboot to initialise and that would happen even 3 recycle ish

I filed a ticket and they suggested hard rest which seemed to have fixed the problem and its working on every boot

BUT

now the iris dial has stoped working- the handle is working in every other way i believe

i can not find any setting for the focus and iris rings within key mapping, is that normal all the other keys allow for mapping not that i want to change it but wondered if that could be a problem

I have reinstall the firmware as well and that hasn't helped

any ideas?

just tried rolling back to 6.3.73 and that didn't help

so odd that it was fine but intermittent boot problems - fixed that with hard reset and now aperture dial stoped working

Don't know if it is related but I had the problem where iris and focus would not respond. The day before did install the low light OLPF. I reinstalled it and made sure the lens mount was properly secured. So far so good.

Occasionally, my sidehandle is not recognized. Rebooting usually solves the issue (the other day, I had to do reboot the camera several times, though)

Same issue. Just received my SW two weeks ago and I have had at least four instances where the side handle was not recognized. Rebooting worked every time to get the handle recognized. Since I'm new to the platform I am just making a bug list to address at one time with tech. Latest beta firmware may solve them but I'm not going to try that update until a few others have upgraded.

I've had the same issue since receiving the side handle. It frequently doesn't work at all, about half the time. Sent it back on its 2nd RMA last week, hopefully the shop is able to "duplicate the issue" this time...

Same issue here since day one. Got it back in December. So far no firmware has fixed this intermittent problem. Is Red aware of this. Are they checking this thread? :)

Mine was odd, intermittently recognised camera like every 3rd cycle so red said do a hard rest which seemed to work but then the iris wheel stoped working and its started dropping of at boot again this week. Have an rma and will send of on Friday as I'VE been shooting all week but it's a pain for sure

I had the same problem. I sent it in and they replaced a board inside it within a couple days. I have it back now and it seems to be better.... so far....

i will say the new firmware seem to sort out the boot issue for the handle and it feel altogether a lot more responsive the focus dial seems better as well

just wish that aperture dial was working and i would be super happy bunny

I'm having the same problem as described by the rest of you. Since day one out of the box my side handle is recognized by the camera about 50% of the time. Sending it back to RED this week.

Dan have you tried the beta firmware? Seems to fix that problem

Hi, I've been having the same problems with my sidehandle since February. It's a random issue that has not been fixed after upgrading the camera to the most recent release version. I have a filed a support ticket and have been asked to try the latest beta firmware. I am however skeptical about this solution and would rather avoid installing a beta builds for all the obvious reasons.

Suresh, I see you mention that the beta firmware has worked for you? Can you confirm if that is still the case?

Thanks

I've just attached my dsmc2 side handle that arrived yesterday for the first time and I must say it's great. I'm running latest beta firmware and the thumb wheels for Focus & iris are so smooth- major improvement over dsmc1's clicky one when working with EF glass.

With a bomb evf, it's quite amazing really with EF sigma art / canon 70-20mk2 glass how much my epic-w camera becomes ENG-like.

Only thing I miss is the battery. I might have to get a used redvoltxl back which works with oldskool single redvolts to reduce weight for my Lomo scope glass and bomb evf.

So incredibly light & steady when tucked into your eye piece. With lefthandgrip nucleus-m for focus wheel for PL Lomo scope glass, I can see me shooting a lot of music vids & music festivals using this setup. It's a really nice cost effective version of Arri mini 4:3 handheld scope lens shooting & it negates the weight of a v lock so no need for a shoulder mount (just strip the cam down & tuck evf into your eye).

Kudos for red for this (this is why I'll always buy your cams - my back is forever thankful too) & if anyone is selling a cheap redvoltxl back, please PM me.

Thanks and have a good weekend.
