Hello everyone,

Soon I will have a film set in the desert (3 days at Joshua Tree), end of October (for a more bearable climate ...) and I will use a Red Raven.

I ask myself a simple question: do DSMC2 cameras support shooting outdoors in the heat? ...
Obviously the camera will almost never be exposed to the sun, but it will certainly be between 77 and 86 ° F.

What are your advice and what settings do you propose? ... always in adaptive mode?

Thank you !

Christophe

Definitely black shade, but you'd be well under the maximum operational temperature (104 degrees).

I filmed an event outdoors in Texas last Thursday, and it was around 90 degrees and worked fine.
I just used Adaptive mode the whole time as well.

If your temps end up getting orange/red, then at that point you could switch to manual to bring it down, but for the most part keeping to Adaptive should work.

All the above are helpful.

Also, October in Joshua Tree the average high temp is 82f which is not very hot. You will be completely fine.

I recommend an umbrella or some sort of shade over the camera. Also I don't recommend changing lenses outside because of the dust getting into the sensor area - I changed lenses inside the van/car. Also same reason why you don't clean the lenses outside. On the other hand, don't worry about the dust/sand in the fan area, it's sealed from the electronics and will blow out in time.

Other than that, it should be good. If it gets crazy hot and you feel like it's overheating, a bag of ice over the fans does pretty well.

A big thank you to all for your information, here I am reassured!

Someone who has already shot at Joshua Tree, also told me that the temperature (end of October) should not be a problem.
