DSMC2 has been an exciting time, but like all things in life there are growing pains. Overall I am a proud RED owner and can get behind most of the new hardware and software that make my job so fun. I just can't quite understand the new back and forth with RED monitors and POGO pins and LCD / EVF cables and DSMC2 backwards support.

The 5" DSMC LCD was wonderful. Full tilt and swivel and easy on and off nato compatibility. Incredible for back packs and quick builds in the mountains.

Cables go down here and there but I personally faired better when shooting in high moisture environments than with the pogo pin moisture issues when out in the snow. I am in with the DSMC2 evf on the side though. Thing has been pretty bomber so far. Got the new ultra bright 7 inch and I'm stoked on performance in full sun shooting. Real bummer that I can't have the support of this monitor with the sturdy turtle Epic DSMC brains that are still kicking around and getting me sick shots! That's another story in the not quite all encompassing obsolescence obsolete mantra.

Need to get rid of the magic arm and get back the nato on off and full tilt and swivel of the old 5" LCD. Anyone out there with ideas or accessories that will get back this performance on the 7" ULTRABRIGHT on a gemini or helium DSMC2?

Please send me pictures and rigs outside of the magic arm for the 7" ULTRABRIGHT. Thanks!

Oh man, I just assumed it was backwards compatible with DSMC1 because of the cable... I guess they need to re-jig via firmware for it to be recognized and they haven't updated DSMC1 for compatibility (and likely won't).

As for the full-tilt/swivel, I think the bigger screens have too much leverage so the hinges have a high failure rate. I know someone who went through I think 3 or 4 of the 9" touches back when they were available (before ultimately upgrading to DSMC2). Just constantly cracking the hinge with barely any pressure.

Plus one on the swivel for the new ULTRABRIGHT. Also, make an optional part that would bolt on so owners who bought ULTRABRIGHTS will have the option to upgrade.

I am not a fan of SmallRig stuff, but here is this tilt swivel mount for monitors that they made.

This is probably the closes we will get to functionality of the DSMC1 monitors. I also want to voice that I wish they made the Ultrabright with the swivel attachment. My life was so easy when I was on the DSMC1 ecosystem because of it.

Just an update: Smallrig appears to be making a better version of this that will give us the full tilt/swivel from the 5" and 7" hinged monitors:

Edit: although now looking at the ULTRABRITE, you need an LCD cable and the Lemo Adaptor-A, which kinda makes me hesitate. The monitor looks like it'd be great, it's just that part of the DSMC2 selling point was to speed things up with the pogo pin connections and have less things to add. Hoping we'll get a hinged option soon.
