  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.23

Thanks Jared, I have been working with support since october for a resolution to a preset issue. Basically if you go from a higher frame rate preset to a lower (lets say 48 to 24) the camera automatically defaults to highest available rate for resolution. Any chance that can be fixed?

We are actively working on this issue. We should have it resolved soon.

anyone find a resolution to the touch screen monitor not working on this new beta?

4.7" touch screen monitor on a scarlet-w. after the update and peripherals being installed, when turning the camera back on, can't touch anything, wont even allow me to accept the agreement. had to do a hard shut down with the button on the side of the camera

My non-solution has just been to use FoolControl. It actually pushed me to go and buy the MacOS version so my DIT can control it, haha. But, yes, this definitely needs to be fixed as it's not even resolved by downgrading to the latest STABLE version.

When will all these Beta firmware updates be finalized so they are no longer considered "BETA"? Is there a timeline to have this all wrapped up?

I don't believe RED have ever announced when a firmware will go into release from Beta. Best to try the beta and see if it works for you. I'm sure they are working hard to squash the bugs.

It's working fine for me on my EW but the word "BETA" kind of freaks me out, not sure how others feel about it.

Some may argue that there is a very fine line between beta and release.

I might not the best one to give suggestions but STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND using beta firmware on commercial jobs.Talking as a someone who have little bit of experience with cameras.
However always getting touch with Red support would solve any problems you had with beta.Im running beta on epic-w since day1 and RED gave me tremendous support all the time, via phone or email they have been trying to help me on every level.
Kudos to RED TEAM !!! <3

I just want to also state my support of not using beta on a commercial shoot. In all cases, you can be on the latest release build with the cam set to RWG/L3G10 and the LUTs provided by Graeme.

I think adding the 'BETA' to splashscreen on startup is great and the feeling you have is the right feeling.

Everyone using the camera on a beta release should know this is not a full release and issues can and will happen.
Someone without this knowledge grabs a camera on beta and experiences bugs and goblins while using it could end up with a pretty negative experience. The new splash screen will help in those situations.

Just an update for you non-helium users, there was a typo in the firmware install notes:

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES SINCE PREVIOUS BUILD v6.4.22
* Added baked-in 3D LUT controls for Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHR/HD For Helium cameras only

try downgrading to the beta before the latest one. my screen works fine now.
you may have to update to latest beta again, and then downgrade to the beta before it and see if that fixes the issue.

I tried upgrading from the latest stable build to the first beta and that didn't fix it, but I will try your suggestion in the morning and see what happens. My camera has been out on a job so I haven't been able to try more troubleshooting or respond to RED support about it yet. Just got the top helicoil fixed and downgraded firmwares so I'd be good until we wrapped today.

I've got a bug. Scarlet-w Beta v6.4.23: Using PagLink PL96e batteries, when you stack two batteries and boot up, the camera boots, then immediately says low power and begins shutdown. However, on the next boot up, they work fine. HOWEVER, when you remove the batteries from the camera, it starts all over again, needs two boot ups to play nice. When using only 1 battery, this does not occur.

I found the previous beta 6.4.21 release to be "stable enough"... but can't find a download link anywhere on RED's site despite everyone recommending to try downgrading to it. Where are y'all finding this version??

I upgraded to the newest Build firmware v6.3.102 and the problem went away.

One addendum, with the beta firmware, I did find the problem occurred with 2 of my batteries (I have 8) using only one at a time. Again, not happening with the newest BUILD firmware.

Had the same issue finding it. Ended up being able to track it down through my browser's downloads history.
