Build 6.4 is monumental.

Graeme's IPP2 image processing pipeline which is a ground up complete overhaul to our entire image processing pipeline from capture to post is finally ready for prime time. In camera for Helium DSMC2.

IPP2 enhancements include: better management of challenging colors, an improved demosaicing algorithm to achieve higher detail at the same pixel resolution, smoother highlight roll-off, improved shadow detail, and more accurate mid-tone hues.

We also have finally recalibrated the ISO for Helium cameras, the new ISO calibration is a better match to a light meter and help improve overall exposure quality.

6.4 also adds support for the UDF file format which allows you to record ProRes files larger than 4GB. ( no more broken quicktime prores files in need of rejoining )

Audio recording in Varispeed is also in beta, so when you record slo-motion you at least get some reference audio.

Some great little things.... like you now will see our Logo on the screen a few seconds into bootup so you can actually tell your camera is on during bootup instead of just staring at a black screen till picture up. I got a bit sick of the whole tilt-head-sideways-to-check-your-power-during-bootup-dance to make sure everything was ok so glad to finally have slipped that in.

Plus a bunch of 3D Lut improvements, extended Anamorphic support and a rather useful log files directory.

April Shipment Update

A couple months ago we finally bit the bullet and invested heavily into manufacturing both in terms of talent and equipment to help us get out of this whole backorder nightmare.

This has already reduced the pressure of Scarlet-W and Raven cameras from blowing up the entire manufacturing line and the results are already showing. This month we will have manufactured and shipped more cameras in a single month than we have since forever.

There is bad news that goes along with this.. Scarlet-W and Raven are both going to get a meaningful price increase in the next 10 days to offset the increased manufacturing costs. If you have your orders in before the price increase you are protected against the price increase so don't worry, this is just a heads up for those that have been waiting to put their Scarlet-W orders in because of the seemingly never ending backorder. Raven new orders are still going to be closed till we get caught up.. as that backlog is still a bit of a cluster.

Upgrade times are shifting daily since that is so heavily dependant on logistics so its still hard to forecast those but for new orders:

Weapon Helium 8ks wait time has been reduced to 3-5 days shipped after new orders

Epic-Ws wait time has been reduced to now 2-3 weeks for new orders

Scarlet-W wait time for new orders should be end of June... which is a full month shaved off since the last update even taking into account all the new orders since then

Raven existing direct orders end of April

Vista Vision is.. you guessed it.. still slowly coming out of the ovens and slowly getting out to customers. That is just how VV is and is going to be for the foreseeable future.

exciting times! this is amazing stuff

This is pretty great. Any word on how Weapon MG to Weapon Helium upgrades are going?

Reuben, like Jarred said, with the upgrades not being entirely in our control (ie, depends on when an allocated camera can make it in to us), harder to give estimates. I can say the upgrade lines are pumping just like the new camera ones. Our production team is really doing a great job load balancing on a daily basis to make sure we are progressing on every front.

When we bring in helium footage to post will 400iso still look like 800iso, or will it be the -1 stop difference for grading purposes. If we bring it directly into Scratch or Resolve for a color session or dailies?

When you bring in Helium footage it will look correct (no matter what the setting of the calibration in camera). You don't have to do anything in post differently.

Thanks Brent, that's good to hear that they are going full steam.
