I've pre-ordered a Scarlet-W (brain only) and I've been picking up the necessary peripherals before my allocation is ready. I've already got a 512 mini-mag, DSMC Aluminum Canon Mount, Gold Mount to lemo adapter and am hoping to pick up a Base Expander from a Weapon Package owner who'd like to change to a V-mount Expender or other module. So what I have left to figure out is a Display.

I understand that the DSMC2 4.7" touch is fixed to the brain and limited to the pogo positioning on the brain unless I purchase the Lemo Adapters (a and b). I also hear that it can only tilt up and down and won't swivel side-to-side. I've heard rumors that it is nicer in some ways than the DSMC 5", but was curious to know what those differences were.

At this point I'm leaning toward picking up the DSMC 5" used since it CAN swivel and will just need the Lemo Adapter A, instead of needing to purchase both a and b. Does anyone have any advice for or against this?

Thanks!

Yes, the newer 4.7" is limited in terms of it's position/angling, however, it is a higher resolution 1280x720 which a lot of people like in the small form factor. However, it would def'n be cheaper for a used 5". I personally, really like the 5" touch. If you nail focus on it, you get 4K critical focus. Sometimes with higher resolution monitors, you'll think you're in focus, but you're really not at critical 4K focus since the resolution is greater.

i honestly never thought the 5 inch was accurate as far as brightness and color, and way less resolution. it is SD.
the new one being actually HD, i hope its more accurate and better able to magnify and get good focus, if you are alone that is.

I attended the RED demo day at Abel Cine in NY the other week to check out the Raven with the 4.7" touch. The 4.7" is okay, but 7" touch RED had on display was much easier to focus and use. I am now seriously considering getting a RAVEN with a 7" touch instead of the 4.7".

Thanks to everyone else for the info. I'm still on the fence about which display to purchase with my Scarlet-W. Nearly bought a 5" touch today from another RedUser but couldn't pull the trigger. He was selling for $950 which seemed cheep so I did some research and he's a new user so I was being cautious.

i guess i still dont get why you need the monitor to swivel???
so an AC can touch it easier? doesnt seem to effect operating, though i dont use that monitor to operate, just settings.
i would definitely go with the new one, its actually HD.
why youd put a SD monitor on, just to swivel it is beyond me but maybe im missing something.

Yeah, I don't really think the swivel is that big of a deal really. Especially if I was going to put it on an arm anyhow. I've got enough budgeted to purchase a 4.7" new or I could buy a 5" with a Lemo Adaptor A and an arm of some sort. I do a lot of hand held, low and high angle work and feel that I'll want the ability to move the screen when I can. I also often work with a director that has an FSI monitor and don't necessarily need the on-camera monitor to be HD.

I've owned the 5" for 4 years and I recently looked at the 4.7" at Abel in NYC and I was really impressed with the sharpness and great size. So easy to focus w/ much better peaking features.

Thanks for the perspective, Michael. I may need to find the cash to purchase the lemo adapters for the 4.7".

I'm so used to the C300 screen that flips every which way you'd like in seconds so I'm not looking forward to having the screen fixed to the body, but I think I'd prefer the 4.7 over the 5 for clarity purposes.
