  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC v6.0.23 Release

I had the same problem with my ZE zeiss set. I did a rediscover with the lens on through the menus and now it all works as before, and the camera speaks to the lenses fine.
EDIT: Its a dud! I tested it again this morning. No communication between Zeiss ZE lenses or L series canons. Rolling back...

The most disturbing problem is getting VERTICAL GHOST LINE just in the middle of frame. It doesnt affect raw data however distracting me too much while shooting.
Remember this bug from few years ago.Have to restart camera few times to fix it.

since I updated the firmware on my Scarlet Dragon, on start up a few times, I noticed a diagonal line, sort of a "fold" in the screen (7" touch ) as I was panning. I rebooted and it went away. I'd not seen it before the upgrade. I wonder if this is the problem you describe? Anyone else see this? Love the thumbnails.

I had trouble with this release and the 5inch display: sometimes during magnify the monitor goes black.
I disconnect and re-connect the cable and everything works. The problem is not the cable (tested two different RED cables).
Never happened with the previous release.

I had a similar problem during magnify but the monitor didn't just go black, it went total camera shutdown. Happened twice and had to reboot. Also having trouble with a few Canon L lenses. (8-15, 24-70) with a few glitches. The v.6.0.23 release feels more and more like a Beta.

Upfront: I sometimes miss obvious things.

But I am having a problem: my Scarlet Dragon playback in this latest firmware update. I don't use a RED touch or RED display, I'm using a SmallHD HDMI display. When I move from Record (which works great) to Playback, I SEE the last thing I shot's first frame. I also see the new thumbnail/back-a-clip/play-backwards/play-forwards/one-frame-forward/etc overlay.

However, I cannot seem to SELECT any of these items with my side handle. None. And I cannot seem to play back ANYTHING- stills or motion.

Anybody have a clue? I sure don't :-). I would say that maybe my side handle did not get its firmware updated, except that it seems to be working fine in record mode...

Thanks,

Patrick

Have you pressed DOWN to move the keyboard focus from the top bar down to the Timeline and then DOWN again to move the focus to the on screen controls?

So is the consensus for those using Canon mount/lenses to hold off on this build? I'm hoping there's a fast follow release as I REALLY want to try out the features in this build. Many thanks!

I tried that like 5 times, not working. THEN, I hit the 'menu' button first (by accident!) and down... lo and behold, it focused on the timeline, and one more down focused on the thumbnails/transport menu.

WHEW! Easy.

Thanks,

P

Yep same issues with canon mount, didn't recognize it first now does but iris jumps around sometimes it won't change iris....
Also the default for saturation was silly high so everyone looked like an orange this am when I went to shoot ;)

Yes I see this, too.

The lens is recognized, but then it falls out. And even though focus is set to manual, sometimes it tries to refocus.

I sent a crash log yesterday to RED because I have not seen any official confirmation from RED that they are actually checking on this. As I am not on a shoot at the moment, I'm playing with this "firmware" everyday, and finding more and more random behaviour with the Canon mount. It's good to see that I'm not the only one as it confirms it's not a hardware, but a firmware issue. I got the following reply from RED, which confirms they are looking into it:

Hello Joan,
Thank you for your patience. Our engineers have finished reviewing the camera log file and are not seeing any hardware issues with the camera itself, however they are aware of the issues you and other users are currently experiencing with the Canon Mount when running on the latest firmware. As soon as there is a resolution for this issue, we will let you know immediately.
Thank you for supporting RED.

I love what this firmware brings to the table! The stills mode is superb. Hopefully RED will figure out the bugs soon, like they always do.
