Can't find this info on red.com, can somebody help out with the purpose of the gold plated mount/attachment next on the run button on the font/top of the mount?

Thanks Christopher. Was afraid it had to do with the S&M switch, also useless. I guess that's why the powers to be black it out in their ads.

The S&M switch is actually nifty, in that you can set it to any function that you want. I have it set up on my Scarlet to go from 4KHD 8:1 23.98fps, to 5K 5:1 12fps. Effectively, Motion and Stills, respectively.

As Matt mentioned in another thread:

The functionality is still very limited, but you can trigger a PC-Sync flash by assigning a key to 'Strobe: Trigger'. You'll want to have the camera set at 360 deg shutter.

As others have mentioned the S/M switch is not useless. It can be assigned like any other key and many map it to two different presets (one for their stills setups and one for their motion setup). In 5.2 we have added more stills functionality to the cameras and will continue to do so.

If your PC-Sync flash terminal is gold-plated, then you're in luck. As Trent said, it will be functional by simply assigning a key to Strobe:Trigger. If your terminal is black, then you're out of luck. The sync terminal on my Side Handle was originally black. After spending a lot of time trying to get it to fire a strobe, I found out through tech support that I had to send it in to have the black one replaced with the gold one which worked. My guess is that the early Side Handles had a "dummy" PC-Sync terminal to sort of act as a placeholder while development continued. Now I can fire strobes, but I really would like to be able to trigger a single still frame record along with a simultaneous strobe trigger. Certainly there's something to be said for having a gazillion multiple choices to extract stills from motion; but I also think there's something to be said for the art of having an eye to capture "THE moment".
