I know a lot of great pictures are currently being shot with Redone at 4.5k, but i was wondering... How about shooting project at 4K with scarlet when we're talking pictures AND film delivery ?

How does 4K looks like for fashion photography ? I'm not saying i'm going to shoot for Louis Vuitton and print building-sized prints, but anyway... has anyone tried to print 4K stills from Scarlet yet ?

I have a job coming, needing both stills and motion, so i'm not really thrilled by the 5K@12fps. Prints will not exceed A3 (double page in A4 sized catalog).

Anyone with such experience here ?

Our prints from Scarlet are as good as those from Epic, and they have been used a lot in fashion, much larger than A3. What's the problem you are seeing? 4K is not that much worse than 4.5K…

Just take care about the noise level and you're fine. With stills noisy blacks are even more disturbing. Otherwise I can only agree with Uli, much larger than A3 is no problem.

Sorry to brake it to you, but unfortunately even so the prints do come out great, please let no one tell you that 4k can be or are as good as 5k... BIG DIFFERENCE!!

We are talking about 1000 pixels horizontal resolution and that in the world of PRINT is a LOT.

That is why, even so initially had multiple Scarlet ordered to join the EPIC cameras, I decided to only stay with EPIC...

5k all the way for a 4k Motion finish and 5K Raw Frame Extraction for Print.

But do Print away 4K, just don't hope that it will be as good as printing form 5k, cause it won't... ;)

Yannick,

You could always use 5k 12fps for the photo section.

Hi, to all.
This is my first post here I think. But my Scarlet is allocated so I will start to ask questions :)

With Scarlet you can shoot 6fps in 5K with HDRx. If you know to use HDR software you will gain fantastic result.
Does anybody know what is the difference in EV stops between two streams. If we know that it will be much easier to use Scarlet in HDR photo workflow. Witch is my intention because it is my area of work, for now until Scarlet arrive.

You set the additional HDRx stream in terms of how many stops highlight protection you want. From 1-6 stops over the standard 12 stops (which is actually closer to 13.5)... So you set the difference between the two streams. So A-stream is always 13.5, but then the X-stream is the same 13.5 but stopped down by 1-6 stops (then you blend)...Obviously the x-stream has quite a few stops that are crushed out (since, you're essentially just stopping down..err.. increasing shutter by an additional 1-6 stops in order to capture those stops in highlights.)

As for 4k vs. 4.5k: While 4.5k is higher resolution, it's also a different aspect ratio, which would need to get cropped in order to fill 5:4 (stills) framing (or the A3+ picture framing). In fact, I'd imagine the actual resolution of the picture AFTER cropping would probably be less than the 2:1 4k of Scarlet/Epic/REDone... I'm just spit-ballin'; I haven't done the math (I'm hoping someone knows off hand, but you could do it just as easily Yannick.)

5k, on the other hand, is the same frame ratio as 4k, just with way more resolution so it'd obviously look much better. Best way to look at it is that 4k is approximately 8.2mp (4096x2048); how much can that be blown up before it starts breaking down? For comparison, 4.5k is only ~9.5mp, but you'd ahve to de-squeeze and crop to get the proper aspect ratio, which would be way more than ~1.3mp difference... Or is there a 4.5k NON-WideScreen mode on R1mx?

Wow, I didn't know that we can change form 1 to 6 stops. That's great!
Thanks Mike, for the explanation.

Careful with more than 3 stops, it can look strange in motion (desaturation).

Thanks to you. I will run some tests first and see how i can achieve the best results.
For efficiency, i'd prefer not to split the photo and video shoots.

Ketch, I will go the EPIC way as soon as i can afford it :-D
