  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC - Long Exposure

1 sec max currently.
Working on longer exposure times for future firmware builds.

Deanan, I noticed that long exposure at night can get dead pixel noise (similar to what some DSLRs have also) is Red working on this? For others who haven't seen this, it is little white dots (pixels actually) that appear randomly and show up mostly in dark areas, night sky's etc. most folks aren't soothing bellow 1/24th. Of a sec so probably never encounter this.

Did you black shade the longer exposure?

Hopefully this is something that will come out in a firmware fairly soon. I was kind of hoping Epic could be more of a timelapse camera than it is right now. So far the camera needs longer exposure times and an actual timelapse mode.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it has been my understanding that Epic already has a time-lapse mode that is at least on par with the Red ONE.

No....best you get now with Epic is 1fps where R1 let you set up 1frame over multiple seconds. Exposure is on par with R1 times....but i think many are hoping for more time-lapse or greater time-lapse than 1fps....i'd like to see as R1 was....so i can get 1frame every 3,5,7,9 etc....and then longer exposures beyond 1/2 sec.

This news hit like a punch to the gut. I sure hope that Red plans to develop a intervelometer for the Epic. Can anybody from the Red team chime in on this matter?

Nope, can't say I did. We were shooting fast at night and just took the exposure down there for a couple of shots.

For the longer exposures, like 1/16th or longer, you'll need to black shade at that exposure.

We'll add more black shading modes to it'll be easier to manage on the fly.

That would be so awesome man. Doing the black shade out in the field blows. Plus it takes a while, much longer with the recent builds.

Blackshade time will speed up also. Playback took up almost all development resources.
Blame Mark Toia. :)

I am also in the Thank Mark Toia boat... :)

That said:
Will it be possible to save multiple blackshade profiles (long exp, regular exp, highspeed) and swith between them?

Why is it that I don't need to Black Shade my Canon 5D MII when I do long exposures?

Just curious.

Also, +1 on Gunleik question.
