  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Beta Build v6.2.3 - This is a good one.

Wish there was a bit more Nikon love. My TI and AL Nikon mounts are feeling a bit left out.

So true! :-/ With every release I am like a child, excited and promising that my Sigma 18-35 will be back to work, like it was when I got my RED. With the next update, everything will be good, I am sure! :-D

FYI Tamron 15-30 SP support is all kinds of buggy. Iris gets stuck when set WFO, communication intermittent, strange menu behavior (including not being able to shutdown even when selecting shutdown on the touchscreen/with side handle)

Really loving this build. Quite solid as a beta, lots of improvements, no issues so far!

Thanks guys!

Guys, also check our Ops Guides on RED.com. My guess is a lot of questions on new featrures and such are answered there. Guides for:

* EPIC/SCARLET
* WEAPON
* RCX Pro

Idea.

It would be great to incorporate the DSMC guide in the RED TOOLS APP. Then major updates to the guide would be automatically included in updates to the app. The app is a must have RED TOOL and it would be great to read and search the guide within the app.

Don't know if it is possible, just a thought.

David

Scott -- With which Mount ? [ Nikon, EF, EF Motion, etc. ?] and which firmware with which brain [Epic, Scarlet, Dragon or MX ?] ? I have had pretty good success with my Epic Dragon w/ EF Motion Mount & the Tamron 15-30 with 6.0.40. FWIW, 6.0.40 said it upgraded my peripherals. Can't confirm that the VC is working with the 15-30.. I suspect VC is working, it's just hard to tell. At one point, many firmware versions ago, I found that booting the Epic Dragon with the 15-30 set at 15mm seemed to help. You might turn off VC, AF and set the lens to 15mm, then boot up from a cold start, & see what happens.

Good luck !
Serge

Haven't tried 6.0.40, but I got the same message from the beta. Turning everything off seems to help, but VC was a big part of the reason I bought this lens. EF mount on an Epic Dragon

I spoke too soon.

Had some shudown errors. and then a major issue this AM.

Last night shot about 19 clips on a REDmag.

This AM I continued on the same redmag but nothing was recorded. about 60GB if data just went poof. Never seen anything like this. Now checking to see what can be recovered with RedUNDEAD.

Not ready for primetime. :(

Lots of neat features. Rolling back.

Just to add. The current REDundead package does not work with El Capitain. The installer fails.

Scott -- if you can get your camera to 'connect' with the lens by booting with AF & VC off (and maybe even with lens at 15mm), you may then be able to turn on VC & AF & change focal length once
the lens & camera have successfully 'shaken hands.' Yes, f/62 (if I read the screen correctly) doesn't look quite right ...
Tx,
Serge

Hi David,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having with the BETA build.
Could you please submit a Technical Support request on SUPPORT.RED.COM and attach the log file from this camera? We would like to get your log file information to our Engineers for further analysis.
Also, have you formatted your REDMAG yet or is it still in the same state?

This has halved my boot time to 18 secs, which is huge for me. I am however seeing regular crashes during boot up. The camera hangs with the colour chart displayed and a hard shutdown is required to get things going again. This has happened 3 or 4 times out of maybe 50. Once it displayed an error message something like 'a serious error occurred during start up, please save your log file', which I have done.

Also, I can now switch on auto focus or image stabilizer on the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 Sport without loosing iris control and lens metadata. I haven't tested the AF but the IS still does not actually function.

Epic X, Canon lens mount, EVF, side handle, minimag.

Thanks guys for feedback, gonna wait on this one for sure....

Tried this firmware out, but had to roll back to last full release as it caused an immediate shutdown on my Nikon mount when using any AF lenses.

FYI

mounting and remounting the mag a few times brought the clips back.

Have filed a log file with Trent.

The mag has not been reformatted.

If if you need anything please le me know.

Curious to hear more about "Open gate" and what it does.

Here you go, Jon.

It's similar to what we have for RED One.

The camera will allow you to run the preview rate on the LCD/EVF at twice the recorded rate (up to 30 fps). It's useful for removing the distracting monitor stutter at lower frame-rates. We'll have the guide updated shortly.

Here also no luck with the beta build: a few random freezes, not booting up, lcd turning black but most problematic an issue with the Nikon mount: no aperture control on most of my Nikon lenses, actuator motor in mount makes noise... Rolled back to 6.0.4 and all seems working again.
