Hey,

I was hoping someone could help me.

I normally do all my projects on 4K 16:9, but recently I did one using the 4K HD thinking the overall process workflow might be faster. However this is causing some strange issues when editing. I've logged and transferred Native (this has always worked fine) but when I put the clips into the sequence (adopting clip settings) I am getting serious dropped frames on playback. Any idea how to resolve this? What makes things stranger is that once this happens, then I need to trash my preferences to get FCP to play back (the previously working 4K 16:9) footage.

I'm using FCP 6 on an 8 core Mac.

Thanks in advance,
KJ

More info needed about drives, drive speed, capacity, how full are the drives.
Have you looked at the files in QT to see how they are transcoded.

More info needed.

Generally 4KHD speed up rendering time because the math is easier. The files size in FCP should not be different.

Hi David,

Its a Raid setup, speeds are fast enough, not had issues with 4K:16:9 footage before.
Drive capacity is over 200gb (available)
Check out the QT files, it plays back fine. Larger files do drag a little (if its over 2gb from what I can see) but again the 4K:16:9 footage drags a little as well on playback on QT but plays fine on Final Cut timeline. I am only having this issue with footage shot on 4K:HD.

Any ideas?

Sorry to bump this post, but could really do with some advice.

I've tried logging in 4K 16:9 footage and 4K HD footage into the same project. Strangely the 16:9 footage works absolutely fine whereas the HD footage is getting dropped frames in the viewer and timeline. Quicktime files seem okay.

Any ideas?
