Does anyone have recommendations for behind the lens filtration, other than the Canon RF/EF drop-in system? Specifically for Variable ND.

Asking as I have a lot of EF glass and I'm getting into the Raptor/Komodo ecosystem. I have looked into Breakthrough Photography and Kippertie, both of which seem absolutely excellent but are not yet available.

Personally I'm waiting for the Breakthrough X4 VND that will work with Canon's RF/EF Mount drop in system. Or if they make one that is dedicated mount for EF like they've done for PL. I don't know of any others with the reputation for quality that Breakthrough or Kippertie have thus far.

Ryan - same! I have been waiting for that same product, but I haven't seen any updates on when it may be available. Fingers crossed it becomes available soon.

I am gearing up for a pretty busy November/December and was hoping to move away from Canon Drop-in VND system.

I ordered the vnd x2 from breakthrough. I never got it. After 8 months I asked for a refund. I decided to go with the canon vnd. I hope more companies make vnd for the canon drop in system!

I have to imagine with Komodo and Raptor becoming readily available, that someone will swoop in and be first to market with a great solution - I was just hoping it would be ready by now. It is looking like I will just go Canon VND drop-ins if I can't find something better within a week or so.

Kolari Vision makes drop-in filters that fit the Canon adapter and unlike the Breakthrough Photography ones are actually available now:

They also sell their own version of a drop-in filter adapter as well:

I'm not sure what their variable ND filter is like, as it seems to be fairly new, but their standard ND filters have gotten some pretty good reviews in terms of sharpness and minimal color shift: https://dominey.blog/2020/10/11/review-kolari-vision-neutral-density-filter/

With the Canon drop-in variable ND filter there is a very strong blue color shift at the higher end of the ND range. So even though it is technically a 1.5 to 9 stop ND range, probably only up to around 7 stops are actually usable before things start turning blue.

The breakthrough X4 VND is phenomenal. Can't wait for them to release their dedicated PL and EF mounts in the future.
