I saw the Vancouver Siggraph presentation of the author for the book “Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital Revolution.” Even if Lucas’s new movies are jarjar fests both the lecture and the book make clear both his and Francis Ford Coppola contribution to film is huge.
The quotes of theirs from the early seventies are startling; they lay out the idea of digital editing, cameras, 3d animation etc. If you’re at all interested in how we got to this point and want to see one of the nexus of digital this book is great. If the book tour comes to your town go see it, incredible! The author worked for Lucas and later spent several years researching the book so he really knows his stuff. Also cover the origins of Pixar which was Lucas at one time too.
