I've heard a few other suggestions, but what's another good RAID storage system brand that's also a good deal (not crazy expensive)?

Not sure but i'd like to know too. I have a cheapo 4-bay enclosure from Startech I think, but given that the 23cent plastic enclosure door falls off every time you touch the unit, I am too scared to pull a drive out and see what happens.

I have one and absolutely despise it. It let me put together reasonably secure storage with a bunch of drives I already had, but it's so damn slow and unreliable. It's inexcusable to have the poor speeds it has and charge that much.

Shame, because it looks nice and the newer drobo dashboard interface looks fantastic...

Because of the reliability issues I actually tended to keep it unplugged and offline unless I was actively backing up, and that meant a large portion of my image database was constantly offline.

I've switched to a new iMac with Thunderbolt and my new Promise Pegasus R6 is everything I wish the Drobo was and more. Soooooo fast. I'm selling the Drobo for whatever pittance I can get as soon as I upgrade all the drives in the Pegasus to 3TB units.
