Does anyone have experience with this? I have a shoot next week and the drive cradle I bought doesn't hold the hard drive at all. It just slips right out.

Are you using the screws on the side to tighten the grip of the cradle?

Are you sure it's not upside down - the Red Drive should slide in from the top (with the connector at the bottom) and not fall out, and as Mark said there should be two knurled thumbscrews on both sides to tighten the rails against the Red Drive to hold it firmly in place.

If they're missing, you could replace them with simple bolts - they only need to be finger tight.

Yeah I had it going the right way. I did figure out a solution though. I just put a little electrical tape in each of the tracks on the drives. Now its snug as a bug!!!

I wish I had the money to upgrade to ssd but sadly thats not in the cards as of yet.

The only other thing I remember seeing once was where the "T" cross-section rails in the cradle had been put in the wrong way.

The top of the T needs to face inwards towards the Red Drive and fit into the T-shaped grooves on each side of the Red Drive. Then when you tighten the thumbscrews they pull the rails outwards so the rails tighten in the grooves.

Jack, if you don't have the money for SSD, try to find one of the Element Technica shock absorbing drive mounts. Lower profile, and you won't have much issue with drives dropping frames. I have SSD and Red Drives as backup if I need the extra storage. So they are not useless, but they do benefit from that ET mount in my opinion.
