  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon....

Can we get some images on here so I don't have to wade through incessant, redundant blather about digital vs. film? It's starting to make me want to vomit. I already did a little in my mouth.
AMEN!

Simple Question:

Will the new Dragon sensor allow us to shoot in darker situations than Epic MX, with less noise?

It is really quite easy. Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with that.

I'll try to be quiet for you and not celebrate a little because you told me to...

Easy guys :-)

Let's all be friends!

I think everyone can discuss anything as long as we maintain a civil, friendly tone.
Including RED and film.

Cheer up!

I think one can find all the important things in a thread like this in the first 5 to 10 pages... after that, unless the poster is in Red Letters, the posts become conversational. Kind of like a discussion group. Nothing too serious. Friendship stuff... for the most part.

You have to account for the fact that most of us enjoy those discussions. There is no pissing contest here. What else do you expect from people who join these forums? This site is mostly about technical philosophy, not story-telling philosophy. And yet nobody minds when we discuss writing...

I was only talking about image quality. Epic is not better then 35mm in terms of image quality.
Despite being bipartisan on the issue (though I prefer film slightly) I don't think I agree. But it depends what your specific parameter is. Resolution and sharpness? Epic wins that (over any configuration of 35mm). But for some movies I see, I am so glad the director chose film. Just IMHO!

There is no debate anymore - digital is the future.
Maybe. Heh, heh... :-)

As far as color goes this is still 16 bit yes?

I would love less noise for sure!!!! Also will they fix some audio issues too? I love my EPIC but on most shoots I have to use the back up Zoom recorder :(

Cause the audio from my RED is always so low and I have had issues in the past. Everyone where I live never uses their audio from the camera they always have to use a secondary recording device. Have you had the same issue?

Neil,

Not had any problems I am aware of? I don't do my own post so rely on post production getting back to me with feedback and no one has ever complained about low audio levels.

ah nice, I'll take it.

Shooting most of my stuff at 5:1, any higher I find compression noise in dark under lit situations

@Will

1.3 stops less noise

I get more noise in my audio when I go from Sennheiser g3 -> Epic vs Sennheiser g3 -> h4n -> Epic. It’s ugly high pitch too. Quiet but definitely there. Maybe if I can find some time over the coming the week, I'll share a test to back this up.

Being your word

Being your word

I love RED. I have spent tens of thousands on you. I am not a big dude. I am just a believer. But you guys keep breaking your word. And that's not cool. I bought into M. I was told an upgrade would cost 6k. Then you devalued my investment by 10k, increased Dragon by 4k, and failed to deliver. I am only one voice.
