  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Bad attitude by the traveler? The next time you are in a certain country(ies) in South America or the U.S. south, and are treking solo and don't know who that is around the next bush- maybe Govt. soldiers, maybe Farc, maybe gringo DEA, maybe local militia, maybe whatever, the last thing in the world you want is a provocative word that allows somebody to eliminate you. I love the weapon attitude, I really dislike the neon sign pointing at it. The word that I want is Stealth. And the best word for stealth is none at all.

Completely understand your position. But 99% of us will not put ourselves in harm's way like you adventurous types. '-)

Weapon? Hmmmm (1)

I think you should have called it 'Pangolin'; they make their living kicking over all the ant hills, and they're world-class at it ;-)

(1) This was an attempt at humour/praise, not an attempt to kick off a naming discussion! Name is clearly set; Jim has declared war. Again :-)

Never underestimate the stupidity of airport security, or security personnel...

Never underestimate the stupidity of people being knowingly provocative and then getting upset that others on this planet do not share their ethnocentricity.

I would imagine to ease on TSA, we could just show RED Website on our phone and /or print a catalog of the RED Weapon and carry it with us and present it to any authority figure. It might also help if RED has some "Camera, Cinema" or any other word laser into the body of the camera.

I would suggest RED contact TSA and make them aware of the camera and its name, and let TSA put out a memo to its people. That should take care of any "name" problems. Maybe something similar could be done for Europe, Asia, Australia et al.

Good for you Ketch, but don't make a blanket statement that it'll never be a problem. It has been a problem. Not only for me, but for others as well.
The concerns are very valid. Don't judge based solely on your experience without taking all the other stories that have been shared all around this forum recently underlining issues with the security industry in consideration.

I know it can be Daniel,

It just hasn't been one for me, I always travel with a good attitude and respect towards all personnel, never had an issue this far, even when I forgot Knives and even a gun once... Just removed form Carry one and shipped back home at my cost.

But I know there are always exceptions... But a name on a camera is not the issue, a name on an EVF hasn't been an issue, people are the issue... :)

They already have. See comment about this from Jarred earlier in this thread. Done and done.

From everything I've read, Weapon is a body upgrade which means the R3D codec should remain the same and the Rocket X should continue to work with it. Was there any mention of continued Rocket X compatibility in this thread that I may have missed?

Jarred,
"Obsolescence is obsolete" except when it comes to 1.8 SSD? :bigear:
However, If with Weapon we managed to improved Low light sensitivity and output 4k directly from the body I'm buying a Dragon next Friday.
Thanks

Hoping for atleast HDMI 2.0 or a DP connection. That would be awesome!

If RED doesn't produce a module that takes 1.8" SSD for Weapon, I'm sure some enterprising third party will step into the breech, IF the demand is really there.

It can't be hard; the interfaces & protocols are (and have to be!) industry-standard; the differences are purely mechanical; the housing and connectors. There may be performance constraints, if the mini SSDs are significantly faster and Weapon is built to take advantage of that, but it's certainly do-able.

Sergio... At list you have an extra one to sale... I only have the one my sister donated me... So I can't even go that route... :(

Sorry Ketch, bad joke on my part. All the best and may both of us take this next RED with us in new, exciting projects!

I'm pretty sure you are wrong on every count here.

Indeed. I doubt red will ever allow third party media. To ensure reliability and compability of media with their cameras.

Weapon. I, for one, love the name!

There are so many whiny people on this planet. Stop it. Suck it up. Deal with it. Roll with it. No one likes a complainer.

Red, please follow your instincts- they are always the best path. The best and most exciting progress can only happen when you mute the outside world and push on. "If you build it they will come."
