  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Nevada, thats where most of the killing with drones are done... how cool. Be proud. I would rather hug a tree than being a part of your society and culture.
This guy is hilarious. I take it you don't like American drones targeting guys that like to burn people alive in cages? You've got a seriously f'd up moral compass, Jon.

As someone that grew up in Philadelphia, went to an inner-city public school, used to run from homeless people trying to steal my backpack, and was robbed and pistol-whipped at gunpoint... I've got no problem with RED calling my next camera a Weapon. I love the name and I'm thrilled to add it to my shooting arsenal. Looking forward to picking the Wep as my main go-to piece and showing everyone else how to use the thing.

"We are at war with conventional thinking."

Jim

Oh...so it's a Weapon against conventional thinking. Sorry, I'm a little slow.

Heh heh heh... like all those nice american bombs that killed thousands of children? Fuck off speaking about moral compass!

A friend just did a documentary about drone pilots, not pretty stuff, and I feel bad for them.

And sorry for not finding this US macho weaponised culture not completely tasteless.

What the fuck are you talking about?
It's hard to tell with his anti-American, anti-RED, anti-whatever rambling, but I believe he is referring to Creech AFB, just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is where most of the Air Force drones are commanded. The ground crews overseas are in charge of deployment and maintenance, but the actual 'piloting' of the drones and the command/control stuff happens in Creech.

Anyway, let's steer this thread back on topic. Jon obviously has issues with the new camera's name. He can join the like-minded folks in the other thread for name discussion. Right, Jon? Sorry to single you out, but us mods just cleaned a whole bunch of this discussion out of this thread.

I think he is referring to the fact that many, if not all, military drones are operated from an airbase in Nevada. Probably shouldn't mention this since it may cause a lot of people to avoid working in Nevada due to being conscientious objectors.

Jeff, no problem. I raised my opinion, and that does not mean I need to go hugging trees... sorry for the rest of the rant, I can take that in another forum at another place, in another medium...

I think battistella closed that one.

I am still seeing the upgrade price for Scarlet Dragon as $12.5K in the store. Has anyone placed an order for $9.5K?

What if you can upgrade to Weapon and keep your Epic Dragon? If history repeats itself, that could be very enticing...

Sure. This would be great, but with all due respect its also a considerable bit of speculation and the time for what-if's is over on my end.

I understand RED need to sell cameras. I believe they have the right to market themselves as they see fit. However, I also believe the playing field with regard to high end cameras is pretty even these days and they might benefit from a little more clarity of intent.

Mine went through fine. I do everything through my bomb squad rep though - using PO's and wire transfers (so don't use the website ordering page).

The Team is working on it now, i will post when pricing has been updated on the web.

Make it the originally announced 6K (ish) price or better and I upgrade immediately... without waiting for Arri to finalize pricing on the MINI, for Sony to announce at NAB, or for RED to reveal what "WEAPON" is. ;)

I had gone back and deleted all my posts on the name topic as it felt like RED had made up its mind and was not willing to listen to some of its customers.

But Jannard's note changed that feeling. Reading his note about the thought behind the branding, I am totally thrilled to know the name came from a concept, a philosophy and wasn't just empty posturing.

Awesome.

Onwards.

(I still hold on to my concerns about airport security and all, but let's see how that all plays out)

Glad to read this Nikhil...

Don't concern yourself with Security... I never had a signaled problem with multiple BOMB evf's in my Back Pack, which has been open systematically every single time at every check point do to it's Scans, been that I always carried two bodies, Critical accessories such as the EVF's & Touch LCD as well as V-Lock batteries and Lenses in the same Pack.

Never an issue, if they were to make one, would be only because of Bad attitude presented by the Traveler.

Good for you Ketch, but don't make a blanket statement that it'll never be a problem. It has been a problem. Not only for me, but for others as well.
The concerns are very valid. Don't judge based solely on your experience without taking all the other stories that have been shared all around this forum recently underlining issues with the security industry in consideration.

Don't concern yourself with security? Bad attitude by the traveler? The next time you are in a certain country(ies) in South America or the U.S. south, and are treking solo and don't know who that is around the next bush- maybe Govt. soldiers, maybe Farc, maybe gringo DEA, maybe local militia, maybe whatever, the last thing in the world you want is a provocative word that allows somebody to eliminate you. I love the weapon attitude, I really dislike the neon sign pointing at it. The word that I want is Stealth. And the best word for stealth is none at all.
