  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Calm down. The decision to have the discount once again is a decision that was made now because many felt they were between a rock and a hard place because they need Dragon before NAB.
There were many, me included who couldn't afford getting the upgrade before december 1st. It was impossible for me to do it and it would have been hard for me to even jump onto Dragon now if the price remained at the high point. This discount until NAB will enable me to do this upgrade and I really feel that the respons Jarred and Red had to customers like myself is extremely nice and generous.

They can't please everyone and this reduction before NAB is because there were more people in the hurt locker than those offended by another price drop. I'm sorry that you had to pay up more, but then again, why did you wait to after December 1st? I couldn't do it so I just thought I should keep my MX and work with it until a much later date, then this came up. It's only been like three months...

Suresh, what you characterize as a kick-in-the-balls is actually a sign of a company able to adjust to conditions on the ground. As Jarred stated, the upgrades were going to be more costly because of the slow-down in customers needing to upgrade, so the price had to be raised to keep the upgrade lines open.

When conditions on the ground, that is, the new body upgrade/sensor tweak for Dragon-only equipped cameras, the desire to upgrade created such an upswell that the demand made the projections for a return to the cost-friendly busier lines to return. This created the flexibility to return to the old pricing.

You should celebrate this flexibility... it may work in your favor someday.
 
I'm curious if an MX to Dragon upgrade could be payed for and then when Weapon is released we could send it in to be "Weaponized" directly, without having to send the MX in to become a Dragon first?
Or is the non-carbon-before-NAB-upgrade pretty much in the end of the line for Weapon that it may take such a long time it's better to just get the Dragon and wait like six months? What's the time frame for upgrading to Weapon?
 
I'm very calm buddy,

I did'nt pay more i got my upgrade in before December the 1st so not to pay extra, it was difficult and I thought I was doing it for a reason

So what are you angry about? You got your Dragon and you will get your discount for Weapon. I'm not sure why the harsh language?
 
I understand some may be putoff the MX upgrade has been dropped back to $9,500 - but on the flipside that means earlier adopters have had a Dragon longer, and don't have an even more challenging "clock" ticking....as MX owners not only now face being phased out, but also missing out on the NAB Weapon deal...I personally find the price drop inspiring and an affirmation of REDs investment in ALL their customers....as presumably a number of the last MX strugglers are also financially less flexible...otherwise I imagine they would have upgraded allready.

IE...the price drop feels like an embrace and affirmation of "the little guy."

And to that - I say well done.

As one who has struggled to keep up in the past and very well may in the future I agree with you.
 
I was advised by my bomb squad rep not to go down the mini mag route as being a scarlet dragon I would not benefiT this was in November, since then I've spent 2k on a few more 1.8's and well...

I'm sure the camera is going to be amazing and the upgrade is a great opportunity for all that missed out.

Like I said for me to get the funds together was a stress but I did, having also spent 2k on dead media after being advised by my bomb squad rep makes feel like I have been kicked in the balls
 
As a person that pushed to upgrade before the Dec 1st deadline, I'm completely OK with the price going back down.
I had the camera for a while now and I made good money and great pictures with it that I might have missed on had I not upgraded back then.

Your bomb squad rep gave you good advice based on what was known at the time. Bomb squad reps aren't privy to new products in the pipeline is my understanding.

Man... I had been holding off and holding off and had a really crap year 2014. This year is starting great, the price drop is really generous and I have the cash in the bank. I'm in!
 
I can understand feeling pissed that you missed a deal, but a product is only worth what you're willing to pay for it.
If the Scarlet Dragon brain went from $14.5K to $4.5K, I'd feel like "damn, I could've saved $10K and bought more equipment." But if I thought it was worth $14.5K to me at the time, then I got exactly what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. And I couldn't criticize the seller for selling cheaper to another buyer who wasn't willing to pay as much. If they're willing to give the same deal to previous buyers, great! If not, I can't even be mad. It's business.

I remember when BMCC dropped from $3K to $2K and people were on the forum, furious, writing essays to BMD because the resale value of the camera went down. I missed that price drop by 2 weeks (6 weeks total, but 2 to be eligible for the 30-day refund). But I thought it was worth that much to me at the time, so I got the product I wanted for the price I was willing to pay.

Your bomb rep may not have known about the Weapon minimag limitation...

And remember...odds are most wont have a Weapon till 2016, so that media is still good all year...and will still work on all Dragon Epic/Scarlet configs (which are still a current camera with a current sensor).
