  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Sorry man. You are one of my favorite dudes so It hurts when i see you pissed off. To be fair though I have said half a dozen times since we introduced the minimags that the future was smaller and I even said last summer that the next camera would only take the minimags. There are reasons why the old mags wont work on the new camera... Sometimes you can't bring everything from the past with you when technology moves forwards.

Mass Destruction weapon for the rivals! How im gonna wait until NAB? I think i should re-arrange my marriage plans after summer because of tight budget.This weapon is more important than anything else :) he he he
 
I bought a red epic Dragon in December so as long as I am registered as having done that at that time I am under no pressure to get weapon as soon as it's released? I'm assuming upgrade can be done further down the line as finances permit?

Don't suppose there can be some type of trade-in/discount for full sized mags to mins?

Rather than having to sell what we all have, some type of trade in deal - and then RED could sell on the original Mags as BT's?

Just a thought :)
 
I honestly thought you would abandon the whole upgrade path idea at this point. I mean, I'm ALL for it as this is the first time I can actually benifit from it but look at the load of baggage it brings with it? You guys aren't a startup anymore and you could just charge full price for this new cam. People would complain...sure, but the confusion would end and people would still buy the camera.

Ultimately I'm grateful that it's even an option when it most certainly doesn't have to be and actually probably hurts REDs bottom line a bit. Remember...you don't have to upgrade and the used market for RED stuff is money in the bank.

Sorry man... we can't sell BT mags because of liability issues with any content left behind.

But regardless.. media is just on of those things that evolves. I have a bazillion HDCAM tapes that are perfectly fine that I can't use anymore. A bazillion blank CDRs that i can't give away. etc. etc. etc.

nope.. already checked. Same thing remember with the Bomb EVF. Lots of concern when we released that about TSA guys going nuts but it wasn't a problem.

The reason I am telling you now instead of @ NAB is that it not only gives you more time to get your ducks in a row if you want to partake.. but also because if you have a Dragon before NAB you will be paying less for the upgrade to Weapon than if you get a Dragon after the first day of NAB and upgrade to Weapon. Its a bit of a double credit... You get a nice credit for having Dragon and going to Weapon, and you get an extra credit if you have already gone to Dragon before NAB.

I have already probably said to much... I would tell you the pricing and all the other info if only you guys were listening... unfortunately though we do have competitors and I am sure they would be very happy for me to spill all the beans before NAB.

I understand the position we both are in :smile5: but it's also little hard to have a heads up when we don't know what it is. If it's something that isn't really needed for some of our purposes, a kinda "overkill" for our needs, then we will spend a lot of money and even if it's something awesome it will be a very bittersweet feeling.

Isn't it possible to get a PM or indication outside this thread about what the final price would be for us with an MX looking to upgrade to Dragon and then Weapon?

Also, and this I think you might be allowed to answer :001_smile:
Will we who get a Dragon now have the discount for upgrading to Weapon even if we upgrade to Weapon much later in the game?

I know.. I always forget. Seems like such a great idea and such a courtesy to our awesome customers that nobody else does , but it always goes down a weird path of never being good enough. I would at least like to think that most of you guys appreciate it.

At any rate.. I just need to remember that I need to just stop posting and go do something fun when I find myself apologizing for people's unreal expectations or when I start yelling at people. It worked for Jim and I can tell it will ultimately work for me.

Like I said, I paid full price for a Scarlet MX, 2 Epic MXs, and now 2 Dragon Ms. I'm pretty stoked to finally be on the upgrade path and am glad you stuck with the system a bit longer.

I would be asking myself if it's worth it in general though. So, I hope you guys don't get too much grief.

Oh well - just a thought! Thanks for the reply.

Looks like there'll be a trickle down on SSD's to Red One owners and non-upgraders :)

In terms of Dragon to Weapon, if the old Dragon is standard SSD (as mine is), I'd presume that'll be a cost to convert to mini-mag? Just thinking out loud here... fully appreciate you can't (and shouldn't!) give out too much info... you're suffering with tight lips - I can feel Jim's presence in the background, part of the fun of RED!
 
I don't know the details of the upgrade, but I always prefer to keep camera up to date and now some of my camera's "battle scars" gets cleaned up. ;) any idea on the turn around time for the upgrade?
