  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Upgrades end in June. If you purchase upgrade before NAB you get the discounted rate of $9,500 again. If you wait until after NAB, the upgrade price goes back up...

If you are a Dragon owner (Epic or Scarlet versions) before NAB starts, you will get some financial advantages as a result, when you go the next step to Weapon. That is the primary reason to upgrade to Dragon before NAB.

You may still upgrade to Dragon after NAB but will lose the special bonuses I refer to above. (We don't however, know the specifics.)

At some point, some time around mid-year (I don't think there is yet a very specific date), the upgrade manufacturing facilities will switch over to Weapon upgrades and the Dragon upgrades will be dropped or phased out. Eventually, non-Dragon owners will lose the smooth transition upward.

This is the most specific information we have so far. Subject to change, of course.

I'd recommend getting it before NAB so you get the discounted rate. Otherwise the price increases again post NAB.
 
Anyone know if Switchblade will be compatible with weapon?
 
If Red requires social consensus to upgrade cameras efficiently, offer upgrades at select times of year, only after demand has been met.
 
We want to buy a new Dragon camera (not an upgrade). Do we have to buy it before NAB to be elligible for the weapon discount? Or are any new Dragon purchases elligible no matter what? again...we're not talking about upgrade but a brand new body purchase form RED.

As long as you have a Dragon, it doesn't matter how you got it, is eligible for Weapon upgrade. So, you don't have to buy a new Dragon before NAB if you don't want to.

Eligible for upgrade - yes... But isn't there a "significant discount' on WPN upgrade if you own Dragon before N.A.B.?

Yes, you will be eligible for Weapon upgrade as long as you own a Dragon...

BUT - I would interpret the situation the same as an upgrade - which is to say that eligibility for the promised discounts is dependent on owning before NAB.
 
Sorry if it's already been answered but should you pay for a Dragon upgrade before NAB, or should you actually perform one in this time frame? Does paying counts as a "yes" for weapon upgrade perks? I might not be able to actually get my camera to RED before April 11th
 
My impression is, if one only pays, then there is a chance that the order is perhaps canceled after NAB, if the Weapon is not to ones liking. Which means, someone takes all advantages without being really involved. This leads, at least for for me, to the idea that payment alone won't cut it.

I offer the alternative belief: I actually think it has been indicated that placing an order, and paying, for a Dragon (new or upgrade) prior to NAB means that you DO qualify. My guess is that you then CANNOT cancel that order. Perhaps it is best to get an official answer, just to be sure.

This is stated in Phil's Weapon thread: " It is possible to pay for the Dragon Upgrade and then pay-up to the Weapon Upgrade." which sort of indicates that payment is the pivotal issue in any case.
