I'm in a pickle. I need a loaner camera from RED for Monday and Tuesday, and I don't know who or how to ask. I'm sitting in NYC without my camera, prepping for a five day shoot in Manhattan.

Short story is, I expected Epic Penelope back from RED for its upgrade and it didn't arrive. The minute I got the email on June 25th for the impending DRAGON upgrade deadline, I sent my camera in. The day I sent it in I asked if I could have it back by Friday the 17th, and I was told that wouldn't be a problem. Now I'm at 20 days and still don't have the camera.

I'm set to shoot a short starting on Monday. I asked red on Thursday and on Friday for a loaner camera, as it slowly became clear that the camera would not be ready. My bomb squad rep couldn't help me.

I'd take any ideas. Thanks very much, everybody.

Hmm, I know this is a bandage to your situation but My only suggestion is to try and find a fellow Red Owner in New York to try and rent from them. Yes, this may cost you the income of a camera but you won't lose the gig or future work with this client.

Even if you could get Red to authorize a camera, it's probably not gonna get shipped on the weekend in time. You can try contacting some of the Red Squad reps directly (with a PM) to Brent or Trent or some of the others. If you're lucky, the Red office in New York might have a loaner (that once approved by Red HQ, can pass to you). Still, Monday is too close.

Good luck.

I got two reds at a house in NYC but guessing you don't want a rental huh?

Well, Bob, you're right. I reached out and found a number of nice people -- some owner/operators -- who were able to help me out on a sunday. The sad thing is that (as you said, Wil) because of the last-minute nature of the problem, I had to lose my whole kit fee on rental costs.

It's frustrating. I think the timing of the Dragon Upgrade phase-out was handled poorly.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
