What to say.... Fantastic news, congratulations!
Can't wait to see more and a upgrade for my beloved Scarlet of course. ;)

There goes my SUPER SPEEDS & COOKES.. but I'm quite happy shooting 5k with extra latitude, do I need to shoot a full 6K sensor... Nope :) but latitude is a biggy.
Great work guys.

The larger sensor size vs cinema lens coverage issue kinda disappointed me at first...then I thought about how 5K resolution area on the sensor will be a little bit smaller area. So, if I shoot in 5k on a Dragon, maybe a few more wide lenses will "work" at 5k, I will get a look around area in the viewfinder, and what sounds like a very large improvement in DR and sensor noise reduction...

And if I slap on some stills lenses, I can switch up to 6K recording and get a higher 'megapixel' count for stills...

I've got $6K, let me know when you're ready to take it off my hands

When will new camera sales come standard with Dragon sensor? Will upgrades take place first?... or will upgrades and new sales open simultaneously?

16 Stops, and ISO2000=ISO800..... WOW! Thanks Jim, Jarred and RED team. This is huge. Thanks for offering this as an upgrade, I'm glad I bet RED. Any hints when we might get to see some footage or a frame grab? :)

Those that complain get on "my list".

Jim

I will have to create a list as well..... incomparable way of doing business.... THANK YOU JIM!

Prediction: Dragon ends the Epic v. Alexa debate once and for all.

Maybe even Deakins will change his tune?

Can't believe we get basically new cameras for $6k. You can bet that Canon and Arri would leap at this opportunity to charge for a full rig all over again. Red is an incredibly rare company... Huge thanks to Jim for yet another gift to Red's customers. Unbelievable.

Are you really complaining about a $6K upgrade?
Jim

... or would you rather like to pay in full for the all new xyz-cam at only $6K more than what you paid for the zyx-cam to the same manufacturer last year?
(This of course would leave you with an extra camera body which may not sell/rent so easily after the new sensor came out. If you are considering to go this path, this could always be done by buying a new EPIC with a Dragon sensor :)

I'm stoked to hear about the sensor Upgrade. It's one of the things that makes Red a great company and their cameras great tools.

Unfortunatly I wouldn´t bet on it, I can´t for the world imagine why anyone would choose Alexa over Epic today, so if they can do it today, they probably will tomorrow, but we can always hope ;-)

My guess is that some people choose a camera based on a `good looking´ picture on a monitor. ( It´s a bit like buying a car for it´s paint color.) If you come from film negative, you may probably not be overly familiar with tweaking images in post because you had to `do it right´ in the camera anyway. For any CGI person the choice between A & E will a non brainer, based on resolution alone.
