Thank you.

Can't you just register at red.com for free and download the update yourself?
You need to own the type of camera to download firmwares. Epic Dragon can only download epic dragon, scarlet can only download scarlet. etc

You need to have a camera on your account for the firmware section to be unlocked, so that you can download.

I actually would prefer an Owner lockable (and changeable) firmware change control, so that a rental client, for example, cannot change firmware, without an unlock code. There are,of course, reasons to allow firmware changes and reasons to prevent certain firmware changes.

One issue, for example is the occasional admonition, from RED, to not rollback to X.X.X build, from the then current build. It is physically possible to do so and I have not seen the consequences listed anywhere...Maybe one day those will be brick like...

Thank you very much

I always assumed that was to make it harder to upgrade the firmware on stolen cameras.

Or so they can be sure to get the $500 transfer fee for legit used cameras. More of a reason to do it.

I think for the Stolen cameras its kind of worth the hassle...Sure for non Red owners it sucks, but we all own anyway so its kind of irrelevant. Personally I wouldn't help anyone get FW, I would make them deal with the rental house, or Red directly. I would not want to help someone who can potentially have a stolen camera is why... (not to say anything about the OP, its just my 2 cents on the situation...if your renting the rental house/owner should help you. If your a tech again the house or Red should help you... but just my opinion and why I agree with the policy)

I need a new update now. For me as not an Dragon owner is really uncomfortable for looking for upstate in the middle of the show.. Since camera is news update coming out way to often.. Nothing I can do, just to adjust to it and hope for your helps.I would really appreciate if you can send new update to my email. Thank you.Belkasemi@gmail.com

I like the idea of this too. I am happy to put whatever Firmware a client wants prior to a job and would prefer them not to be changing it themselves.
I also think the firmware access only by owners is a great way to help limit stolen cameras. As we all know Red is great continually coming out with new better firmware which means stolen cameras quickly loose their attractiveness.

Yeah I wouldn't want someone renting to change the firmware on my camera. What if they don't plug it in and brick the camera? They can claim it stopped working and blame you for screwing up their shoot. You wanna pay for shipping and repair charges? Not me.

Also, how many cameras get stolen. If legit, upgrade it. If not, suffer the flaws. Why give new features to a stolen camera.

I simply wouldn't rent from a production house that acted this way. Your client needs should be important enough to give them what they ask for. It's not like they are asking for the beta firmware. if that's the case, don't rent to them.
