  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This is more of a fun thread before any of you start bashing me...
What do you think the dragon for scarlet specks will hold? Im hoping for red one (or surpassed) frame rates, low light, less grainy images (i guess that can be said to be low light), and less rolling shutter (or reds take on the new global shutter cmos)

What do you want/expect?

Jim already said that the Dragon for Scarlet will need extra hardware in order to move to the new chip, so it might not actually be anything other than a sensor upgrade... ie you're buying a new sensor rather than junking your camera and buying a new one.

So, in terms of what the Dragon will potentially mean for Scarlet - think of stuff like improved DR and more dense pixel structure

Low light makes grain. Moving to the new sensor will improve it's range (dependent upon specs).

In terms of a Global Cmos shutter - do you know of a current camera with one? The new Sony uses a mechanical rotary shutter (as an extra add on) to a Cmos sensor. Arri has this option too.

Well, i was sort of asking what your guessed specks are, but ok...
Just so you know, i have followed pretty much every post about dragon + scarlet :)
Yep, there was a new super slow motion camera with it. Wait while i look for a link

Interesting on the high speed camera. For-A are one of the old kit manufactures from the pre digital days... I remember having to use their a TBC linked to source VTR machines (each VTR player would need a TBC) and they would take 30 minutes to warm up (otherwise the SD signal was green) - LOL.

You don't know how lucky you are in this new digital age! :)

The high-speed camera is $120K-$150K - so a rental only option (most people will hire it)...

On Dragon specs, I think it'll be focused on the smaller pixel pitch and more dynamic range/latitude... a few more stops will be good :)

I don't think this will mean extra frame rates. But, it's RED we're dealing with, so who knows? ;)

Yes there will be more DR. Approx 15 native stops...

I would think you would get faster frames, as red need to do board upgrades. Not somthing you need to do unless there giving it more power...
