Dragon Pricing Question

I'm not sure what the meaning of "poof" is. "Poot" would have been easier to determine.

I was expecting to pay 28k for a new brain... Then, news came out about upgrading the sensor on our existing brain. The MX upgrade on the Red One was just shy of 6k, so this being the Monstro sensor, and larger I was expecting 8k to 10k, then I was surprised to find out the upgrade was only 6k for the Monstro sensor.
Now every time I'm in a bar, and a gorgeous girl offers to by me a drink....I have to be careful, RED has messed up my expectations:)

"poof" - Disappering in a cloud of smoke!

Yeah, but what was disappearing in a cloud of smoke? Was his poof a positive poof, or a negative poof? He just left us hanging. '-)

I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of people have a positive experience with RED, but there are a few that are less fortunate.

Very well said Clint. I completely agree with you. Its frustrating sometimes on the forum that a simple question turns into crazy madness. The $6 for 6k is a welcome gift and I can't wait to throw my $ at red for it. It's a bargain in my opinion. I love my Epic :)

sorry Jarred that my question turned into craziness!

Sorry to chime in the "Epic only" discussion, but I'm still very interested in Scarlet Dragon pricing.

A $6000 upgrade for a $35,000 camera is very reasonable, it is 17% of the overall cost of the camera.

When you apply this to a $10,000 camera and also remember that Scarlet "dragonizing" should be more expensive due to a need to replace some additional components along with the sensor, it seems that the upgrade cost will be closer to $8,000-9,000, which is almost a 100% of the cost of the camera, which is almost like buying a second body.

Though I'm sure RED will find a way to make this right as they always do.

What is going to happen with the old sensors when red replaces the sensor in a upgrade camera? I presume red will not throw them away, just curious?

My take on this is that you will have something closer to that $35,000 camera after your Scarlet is upgraded to the Dragon. I toyed with the idea of going Scarlet route after Jim said the upgrade would not cost more than the camera. To me, that meant I could get something like a near-Epic for only around $20,000 dollars. Of course it would still lag behind the Dragon Epic in many ways so I stuck with Epics.

All I'm saying is that you can't compare the two cameras in percentage of cost in re the upgrade. The upgrade stands on its on in cost and whether the package is going into a Scarlet or an Epic, it still has its cost basis that has to be recouped.

My guess is they will tie them together in a Super Array Fractal Camera and each sensor will become the equivalent of a pixel (that fractally contains smaller pixels) that can be rented by entities to take big effin' pictures.

Either that or they will be fitted with a clasp and sold as brooches.

Assuming they follow industry standard practices, they get re-used as replacement parts for the RED repair lines or recycled into their constituent elements as needed.

In some ways it's worse. If they just released a Scarlet-D for $10k I could probably sell my Scarlet body for $5k and it would cost $5k to upgrade if they were the same price. So I'm actually paying an additional $3k for the privilege of upgrading. Then again since that would be seriously screwing us over I assume Scarlet-Ds will sell for more than $16k new, just like RED-Ones cost an extra $6k new with MX to make it worth while.
