So after doing the down and dirty noisy Lomo stuff last night . . . I set out to see how clean and noise free I could shoot Dragon tonight. I mounted my fastest wide angle lens - the Canon 24mm 1.4 L - set the Dragon to as light sensitive as possible and went into the night. At 1.4 we are in Summilux-C territory for light transmission so this is as good as it gets with my gear. Went for the highest DR scenes I could find. Maxed out the LightRoom recovery sliders so I guess the scenes are as extreme as it gets.

Please look over the files and my meta settings to see what I could have done better / different for a more noise free and dynamic result.

R3D clips are uploading overnight since they are gigs long. I trimmed out about 1 second of four of the scenes that had motion so you can see the noise pattern.

To be honest the noise seems a bit rough in shape and quantity for shooting clean. Seems a smidgen lumpier than what I remember of my Epic MX. No idea why since I'm no movie camera engineer. BTW: my Dragon has the new OLPF.

The JPG's were worked in LightRoom from TIFF snaps to make them mo pretty. Better grade could be done in Resolve

Wow, that looks amazing! I think we're used to seeing low light photography with much less dynamic range. To see range like this in the dark is awesome. Did you use NR in Lightroom at all?

Yes, gave the JPG's the 5 minute ZEB stills turbo treatment. Global adjustments only - no localized or windowing - just jacking sliders mostly and NR. There is noise for sure but can be managed with Neat Video more than likely.

Really appreciate this Zeb, everything seems much more in line with my low-light anticipations. That digital gain noise sure is active though!

There is more to low light performance than noise level. Organic noise texture is far more important IMHO, as is detail, DR and color retention. It's important to compare apples to apples here, the Canon C300/500 use very heavy on board NR processing to create a clean high ISO image, you need to downscale Dragon footage to 1080/4K and then run a neat video pass to truly compare the two on the same footing. So far, as long as I've used a meter and exposed properly the EI 2000 material I've shot has looked phenomenal, I'm not a neat freak when it comes to noise, I actually like texture in my image and Dragon has the most film-grain-like noise of any digital camera I've ever used.
