Hey guys,

Just thought I would post a quicky on here and see if anybody has/is experiencing same.

Got a Dragon about 2 months ago.

Had a dead pixel straight out of the box - black shaded it out.

Another pixel died a few days later. Black shaded it out.

Camera started doing random crashes every once in a while. Thought nothing of it.

Sent the logs in - RED confirmed error and asked for the Brain to be sent back.

Screen started doing weird things - displaying horizontal lines on boot one time.

RED asked for the screen back too.

The Dragon has now been fixed and apparently is winging it's way back to me, thing is, the actual issue - it's cause, underlying problem or whatever it was is not being discussed.

Is this usual practise? "Your camera is broken, send it back, we'll fix it - thanks." with no real explanation?

Call me weird, but I'd really like to know what faulted, why and what's been done to the camera to fix it or ensure it doesn't happen again.

Not really up with RED process - so would appreciate any insight.

Cheers.

Same thing happened when I had an issue with my Dragon. I would imagine that they try to keep all that info internal to avoid the trolls.

There is really nothing they can tell you. It would be something like PCB p/n xxxx failure- replace PCB. That's all. What good would that do?
I'm sure internally they monitor the failure rate and address any "chronic" failures by single-ing out the weak component and replacing it in the next run of boards.
Really that's all they can do...

If it's something you did wrong, I'm sure they would send you the bill. My dragon also had a red vertical line of pixels through the footage, which was black shaded out. I asked them very thoroughly about what it might have been, and if it's any cause for concern in the future. They gave me very brief responses, pretty much telling me not to worry. I do hope it doesn't cause other problems a year from now when it is out of warranty.
