  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DR ..a good discussion!!

Sony Venice, ISO 2500, AND a 42 "Shadow" setting in the raw tab. No noise reduction used.

Interesting thing,

Edit:

The image above is a Gemini Image, sorry for the mix-up.

Here is the original Monstro image.

Here is the same grade as with the Epic-W Grade above, Notice that at 4863 Kelvins, that the right side of his face is a little too hot, but the wall behind him looks ok.

Now with the original ungraded image, if I lower the Kelvin settings from 4863 to 3161, I get the right side of his face back but the wall behind him has a "hotspot"

This was the same thing I noticed in one Luigi other scenes of a blown-out image of the DSC Labs image of four ethnic female skintones.

You need a scorecard to keep up with the various camera sensors and in what mode it was in. Thanks David for bringing it to my attention! I had to go back to the metadata to discern which was which.

What you want to know how to be in here in these files RAW.
I will collect the DR of Monstro, Epic-w Gemini, BM, ALexa, Scarlet-w, Sony Venice make repetitive images in different environments and lights with these cameras (real life) always using the same lenses.
Give me some more time, I'll do it as soon as I have some break ...
If you have a request, write here.
This must be a constructive discussion between professionals of this beautiful work.

Enjoy yourselves!
Luigi

My Peronal things today 28 MArch 2018 :
Out of Davinci Resolve UHD-SDI to monitor professional 4k , ALexa have 14+ stop usable, Scarlet-w Dragon 5k have 14 stop usable ( with D.E.B) , Bm Pro 4.6 have 12+ stop usable( critical vertical line!!!), Gemini is great camera usable 14+ stop.
if we only look at the luminance the DR is much higher. ALexa reaches 17 stops, Dragon 16+, BM 15, Gemini almost 17.

This thread has become quite long, with many different images discussed. Alas, there are no meaningful labels in the dropbox directories to tell us which of the files are the Xyla DR tests. Can you please provide an answer key, either in the Dropbox folders or in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (still reserved) post in this thread? Thanks!

you're right Michael, I have to do a little cleaning;) be a bit of a mess. As soon as I have time, I do it.

Thanks Luigi! Actually, once I dug around I found that the files were only the XYLA tests, not lots of otger images too. I'll write up some fresh thoughts when I have the time.

Fantastic work - the comparative XYLA between Arri / Venice / Monstro / Gemini is something that I have long been curious about.

It shows just how impressive the SNR of Arri’s sensor technology was many years ago; The unblocky (fine grain) of the Arri noise as it dips into black still looks class leading.

If DEB is applicable to the Monstro & Gemini footage - it could also be included in REDs darkest clips as Arri is already applying their own proprietary SNR to their recorded footage.
