Can anyone tell me what difference changing the output filtration for dpx's makes ? (linear, box, triangle etc..)

I output the same few frames with all the different filtration methods and could not really see much difference.

Is there any advantage to using any particular one of these ?

Thanks

Geoff

Geoff,

Are you doing resizing on output? Resizing is where those filters can make a big difference. Especially to non-power-of-two resolutions, i.e.: something other than 1/2, 1/4 resizing.

I still get output re-sizing greyed out in latest Redcine build for DPX. It's there only for Quicktime. Trashed prefs etc, but no joy. Is it just my setup, or is the the same for everyone?

8-Core Mac Pro; ATI X1900; 4GB RAM; OSX 10.4.11; Quicktime 7.3.0; Redcine 1.0.4

I did the same test exporting same frames with the different filtration and I saw quite clear difference in the sharpness of the images. linear was the sharpest and all the others showed minor but noticeable differences in softness.

Ido.

Hi Lucas,

I shoot 4k 2:1 as 16:9 always gives me codec errors.

In Redcine I create a project which is 2600 x 1300 this maintains the 2:1 ratio and gives me a stabilization margin when I import the dpx's into an HD After Effects project.

I scale the shot in red cine to fit the custom project size using fit-width - or fit-height.

I am not resizing on output as such - I just output these 2600x1300 pix frames after minor color and histogram adjustments.

So I guess from what you are saying that these filter settings will make no difference to me ?
