Hi,

I have some material R3d 4K 2:1 and I want to down-convert it to Dpx Log 2K pictures.
When I render from Redcine (Color Space= RedSpace, Gamma=RedLog) 10 bit uncompressed DPX files, the size is 8 MB/picture.
When I render from RedAlert with same settings, the size is 12 MB/picture.
Why is this difference?
What size a Dpx Log file should have?

I think you mean Endian, or Endianness... and no, that is all about byte order, it would not create a file size differential like that, and I believe these two applications transcode to the same byte order, and there is no toggle for that setting in these apps.

I'm guessing there is another setting that is different. Are you transcoding to 2k 2:1, or 2k 16:9, and are your frame sizes the same out of both apps?

I'm transcoding 2k 2:1, in both apps
Whats the normal size of dpx log files?

I'm getting 8 MB files from Redcine, and 9 MB files from RedAlert. Same settings (my color space is Camera RGB though).

 isn't it funny.... Indians... ehhh I meant Endian... :w00t:

Seriously... more metadata perhaps...

Thanks for the answers.
I'll make some more test renders with FCP, Color and Clipfinder and I'll post the results.

2048 x 1024 is 2,097,152 pixels
At 10 bits per pixel, that is 2,621,440 Bytes/color/frame
With 3 colors (RGB), that is 7.8 MB/frame
With 4 colors (RGB + Alpha), that is 10.4 MB/frame

I don't know if DPX files are actually RGB or whether they can have an Alpha channel. This is just an idea. Does anyone know if these are true?
